Stupid cow. This is exactly why helmet cameras are great - I'll film and shop any driver I can every time. I 'kin hate mobile phone drives with utter utter loathing. Scum.

What a half wit.

I saw a BMW driver using his phone the other day and driving slowly because he was bad at it.Didn't do anything though as I didn't like the look of him.(Bottlejob)

One big reason I dislike mobile phones so much.People walk around the streets with one glued to their ears unaware of the dangers of their surroundings and yes I do have one although I couldn't tell you when I last made a call on it because I don't know.Probably whehn I was in Bangkok was the last time I made a call.

Mobile Phones are an obsession.

Can you shop someone using the footage? Does anything happen as a result of your footage of them on the phone? I must admit that would be a big incentive for getting a camera.

I have actually seen people text without looking at their phone so I know that is possible although it is still a distraction if done while trying to drive a car. But how on earth can she say in all seriousness that she can receive messages (by which she must mean read messages) without looking at her phone??

Somewhat academic as her whole attitude is appalling if she thinks it's acceptable in any circumstances (least of all travelling at 70mph) to be able to use your phone while driving.

Sadly, as Cheadle Hulme says, not an uncommon attitude.

It'll be interesting to see what she gets by way of punishment.

Her defence sounds like that of a lot of motorists, as in, admitting to not fully understanding road law which, IMO, is a good enough reason to revoke driving licences permanently.

Stunning indifference really, to some basic motoring education. I am not sure how many more of these stories we will hear about before the message sinks in.

interested though to know where the stopped car was, if someone was trying to change a flat while on the road, in the dark, in the wet ...

Surely that is totally irrelevant? No matter where the car was stopped, other drivers are expected to drive with due care and attention. That means driving at a speed at which you can stop in the distance you can see to be clear.

It does seem a little like victim blaming.

I've seen a large number of female drivers who believe they are perfectly capable of driving without looking up at the road from the mobile in their lap.

The one who proceeded to drive straight out of work, over the top of the roundabout and then head-on into the kerb at the other side obviously hadn't been practising long enough.

But back to the death-crash driver - I can't believe she thought it was OK to use a mobile whilst driving in 'the right circumstances'. Come on - who is she trying to kid ? She's just trying to excuse her illegal (and fatal) behaviour by trying to feign ignorance.

The sooner we allow things like helmet-cam footage to be used by the police to prosecute mobile-using drivers and help stamp it out, the better. Though I see the next issue is with drivers watching films and telly on those satnav-cum-entertainment-centre screens they have in cars, rather than looking at the road when driving. I despair, I really do.

Goo, I can see a time when the law is changed to say "drive and only drive", and anything that may become a distraction should be left well alone...

...hold on. It already says that.

I think helmet cam footage from the police is admissable, as it is with the video from their cars and cctv.

Not something I could do, as it would mean changing my glasses

I assume she is trying to get the "Dangerous Driving" charge cut to "Without due care"
I wonder where on the M40 this was. I used to do M25 to Marlow every Monday. The first half of that is 4 lanes and I used to have to outside 2 all to myself
