And I'm sure any government since Thatcher would have sold it off already but for it would be political suicide for them. Mind you, since selling off so much that belonged to the country already, it might not be so absurd as it might suggest.

I only heard of this show because of the media hype surrounding some Bangladeshi bird winning it..

Yeah,that's her.
The one that Channel 4 had her travel to Bangladesh.
A kind of "back to my roots" thing.
If it was a white chick from Dartford, there would have been no documentary
Slightly OT, but do you wear a gold medallion?

This forum really isn't very representative of society given the number of people claiming to never heard of Bake Off. The programme is watched by around 10m people week in, week out. Im the only one in my house who doesnt watch it. The simplicity of the format is what appeals and I think the BBC is the only channel which would have commissioned it originally due to this simplicity and lack of pomp.

They've heard of it, they're just trying to be edgy. Middle aged cyclists trying to be edgy
I like it, I like Mel and Sue, I like Berry, I like the format and I like "Extra Slice". I don't like Hollywood, I don't like the fact that I can only manage part baked baguettes and I don't like that it's going to C4. I might start one of those petition things to demand a debate in the House!

Bollocks .... Cakes are inextricably linked to cycling, Bake-Off is like watching a documentary about how Porn movies are made for a cyclist ....

Im not sure what part of my post is supposed to be bollox, or that saying it was bollox was really necessary.
Just to be clear, I agree that cakes and cycling are inextricably linked, my waist line suggests they maybe too closely linked, that was sort of my point. Read the previous posts in this thread and you will find numerous claiming to not know what Bake Off is and I find this hard to fathom on a cycling forum.
But hey ho.
I've never heard of it or watched it but I suppose it'll give me more time in my study to translate classical Greek poetry now it's on one of the common channels.
Is that what's replacing it, then, so increasing demand for your translations?

Sorry .... would it have helped if I'd added a :okay:

booze and cake

probably out cycling
I love cake, but have never seen the appeal of Bake Off and have'nt watched a single episode, so no loss for me.

What gripping televisual delights will the Beeb replace it with?....the great hoovering challenge? .....celebrities emptying the bins?......monkey tennis?

And surely Mary Berry won't last another series (runs for cover)

EDIT, no way! I had no idea Marry Berry was friends with Grayson Perry.
