Ahh yes after removing myself from his car door I should have said in my calmest voice sorry to have troubled you my fine sir please accept my humble apologies for this terrible mister meaner by a a non worthy road user cyclist.
I know exactly what would have been pumping through you, i've been in those situations my self several times. But I know that such a reaction is not going to improve a situation, especially when the other person is already shouting abuse.

My comment was just an observation that I thought that action played a part in what happened later. I think that is a fair comment, we are all entitled to our own opinions.

It's an interesting thread though, especially in light of the threads by Matthew, some of which I have viewed today. The recent one with the footage of the bloke in the silver car, it makes you wonder, would he have reacted like that to me, Paul and the rest of the 'fight-backers' on here? I reckon not, but probably because we are bigger and have been around a bit. Which makes you consider if the actions of the 'fight-backers' give people like that the excuse for bullying younger/smaller/flimsier cyclists. I know this is often debated on 'fight-back' threads, whether we make it worse or make them think twice. I don't know the answer, but I reckon I will continue to fight-back.[/quote]
Please dont bring me into this. My thread is another one, not this. However, if anyone hits me, I will retaliate (in the correct circumstance) with appropriate action. I may not look like a tough guy but when physically assaulted, I know how do damage (however if i was fending for my life, I would just do enough to get away).

The driver committed Common Assault and Battery you are entitled to use reasonable force to defend yourself. Personally I would not punch, broken hands are painful, jaws are pretty hard things to hit. Kick to the gentlemans area is the best ploy. Incapacitates long enough to retreat to a safe distance.

Good Job Fella!! I have to say one of my real pet hates is foul, loud mouthed individuals in chav gear. Sounds to me like you did the right thing. You removed yourself from the situation, where upon he followed you and escalated the encounter to a physical level. You simply used the force you deemed necessary to disuade him from further action.

I see no problem with that at all.

If it were me, I'd get a copy of the video and report the incident.

I recommend you sit down with a pen and paper and calmly record everything that happened, in chronological order. Don't dress stuff up, exaggerate or get emotive; just the bare facts. If you struck him because you had been pushed and were apprehensive of further violence, say so.

I would refrain from further discussing any part of it on a public forum until the police involvement is over. Yes you're among friends here but something written in jest or taken out of context could be damaging. It wouldn't be the first time that a motoring forum member discussing an altercation with a cyclist made his way to the cyclist's own forum. I definitely wouldn't make the video public either.

Good luck.

I'm really sorry, especially considering Dayvos comment in post 30, but this just made me smile, sorry, sorry

Known as an RTC these days, as an accident implies there was no one to blame.
FINALLY! Someone actually agrees with me. I hate it when someone says "He had an accident" or "it was an accident". How do you know noone is to blame. The correct term to use is either 'collision' or 'incident', it makes things sound worse but at least it has everyone on a level basis before accusations are made about who was at fault. It can only be refered to as an accident is there is one singular person to blame. Such as Personal Accident with insurance for CTC. It will cover only one person.

Be careful about reporting it, facts can get twisted if he reports the incident 1st. Something like this happened to me in 2005 where the other person reported it 1st. & 12 months later at a cost to me of £8500 I was acquitted & the "victim" got away with it.
I would keep quiet & not report it.

Not sure this is a good or bad but just got home and want to get it out....

Driver pulls out on me into a box junction and I hit him square in the drivers door and up I go in the air. First thing I get as I come crashing down is a mouthful of abuse. I ignore him and check my bike quickly over ie is it rideable and it was. Damage to his car a good scuff mark and the door has dented inwards. At this point he is still hurling abuse and wanting details so I reply Dial 118 F*£$K O$F! and ride off down the road to a place to pull in, this is where it gets worse!

As I am looking at my bike he gets out the car with real attitude (fat git in an England Shirt mid to late twenties walks straight upto me and with his blubbery weight gives me a good shove. As he comes at me again I give him a good left jab giving him broken sun glasses and a bloody nose. At this point he didn't come back for more and a good deal of abuse exchanged. In the end he buggered off with the mouthy female who got out with him.

I was left a bit shocked and a gentleman got out of his car from the line of traffic that wasn't moving in the opposite direction and says I have it all on my phone mate, here's my number etc I'll send you the video if you need it..

My front wheel is a little buckled but I think he came off worse. Should I bother reporting it or just take it as one of those things that happen? Wife reckons I should leave it but being 43 I feel a bit guilty in giving him a slap.

He should get a life sentence just for this ^^^^^.
