If he does, Vern, pleaseeeeeee don't post the URL. That is one book I don't want to read. Nobber.

No need to call Vern a nobber!
He wrote some good lyrics, though. I like The Smiths. How much was it down to Marr's influence, I don't know. One of those bands that ought to have stayed together without letting the wiring show. Like The Happy Mondays.
Indeed he did. And he's an interesting guy. Not always pleasant and media-friendly and sometimes a complete idiot. But undoubtedly interesting and important in recent British culture.

I tend to like such people - people that bleed in public. They talk nonsense sometimes, sure, but it can come from a place that I can understand. I feel Morrissey can be something of a contradiction, sometimes like a child that wants attention, and to be loved, whilst at the same time shrugging off adoration and protesting his individuality. That duality is part of who he is. I'd certainly read his autobiography, and I know it'd both equally annoy and amuse. Wouldn't stop me being fond of the guy though.

Besides, he has a uniquely creative - often amusing - way with words and manages to get many a bitter-sweet twist. For that alone, whatever his public persona, I'll always admire him.
If he's going to wrap himself in the UJ whilst supporting Madness
A misjudged action for sure. I'd switched off of him at that point in time, so I really wouldn't want to comment on what his motivation might have been but, yes, there is a certain wistfulness about him sometimes. A yearning for something that has perhaps never been. "I'm dreaming of a time when to be English is not to be baneful,to be standing by the flag not feeling shameful, racist or partial". It's almost John Major-ish and 'warm pints of bitter and cricket on the green' somewhat fanciful imagery.

Billy Brag did a similar sort of thing as I recall. Trying to recover the notion of being English from the association of skinheads and National Front. Morrissey doesn't have Bragg's political intelligence and is perhaps naive. I suspect he knew (knows?) not what he's playing with.

Is he still in the US? I've a vague recollection of him moving to Italy (Rome?) at some point a few years back.

For eliminating the risk of me being exposed to the contents of his autobiography.

I hope that he doesn't find an alternative outlet for his prose.

Cracking a solo.
Have I mentioned that I've touched the man. I was at a Smiths concert in the Newport Centre, and Morrissey was working his way along the front of the stage touching the hands of the masses when the group of lads next to me grabbed him and pulled him off the stage. He got up and tried to get back up on the stage, however being Morrissey he was somewhat lacking in upper body strength, I was standing directly behind him so with a rush and a push I manhandled him back onto the stage with the assistance of the roadies, I then handed his microphone back to them.
Morrissey stumbled from the stage clutching his head and his back, heaven knows he was miserable then. The band played on for a little while, I can't remember the tune but it was probably Panic. Then they went off too, they never did come back and the show ended in a riot, all in all a most entertaining evening.
See Here (disappointed I didn't get a mention )
