Nothing to do with cycling at all.

I booked a guitar lesson and it was brilliant. Same again next Thursday. She asked if I knew the bits and bobs on a guitar and what did what. I said that I did, I had remembered that much. She showed me pictures of finger positions of chords and I had remembered what they meant too so we got on with learning a couple of chords. D & A to be exact. I had problems with the D chord as the loaner guitar has a really wide neck and I have quite small hands. But I got by and worked it out by moving the guitar a bit to make my hand fit a bit better.

The teacher lady is emailing me the bits that I learned today so that I can practice. She said that I had picked it up really well and very quickly.

I ended up at PMT in Norwich today, after visiting 2 or 3 other music shops and a couple of hideous experiences over the last 2 weeks, and went in and asked for help and advice. I was a bit nervous but a lovely chap took us off to the acoustic section of the shop where we discussed budget, lack of experience, what music I like and so on and so forth and he then took down about 8 guitars, 1 at the bottom end of the budget, 2 at the top end and a few in the middle and then said "go for it, I'll leave you to it and yell if you need help" I learned 2 new chords too but have no idea what they were. The first thing I noticed was that the necks were thinner so I didn't struggle with a D chord at all, or the other 3 and spent a happy couple of hours with my exceedingly limited playing, discovering that hubby knows 4 or 5 chords too (I had no idea until today) and narrowed it down to 2, then went back 2 hours later and bought this.

It sounds nice, it feels nice, it was on offer and I think that it is a thing of beauty. Unable to do anything like practice or learning tonight as downstairs knocked on at 6.30pm and said that our chatting (not loudly) was keeping her awake and could we stop the dogs walking around as its frightening her cats and keeping her awake.
Tomorrow morning when she is out though, for sure.

Well done! Keep it up!! :bravo:

That's great - keep it up!

I have owned guitars for 46 years, but never really learned how to play. I currently own 2 and they sit there in their stands in the corner of the room for weeks at a time, sadly neglected ...

When I was lying on the floor close to death last year, one of the things that flashed through my mind (apart from "Oh crap, I think I'm dying") was "Well, it looks like I never will learn to play the guitar"!

I am determined to learn now. Absolutely determined.

One place that I went to ask about buying a guitar said "Oh you want this one, smaller size because you are a woman, mahogany wood and it will last you forever" I asked if I could try it and the shop man said that I couldn't but I would love it. Hmmmmm riiiight!
One place, they were nice though, asked what music I liked and what I wanted to play. I said that I would like to eventually play at church one day (we have a loud rocky style church). I could see his mind go directly to Cliff Richard, not passing Go or collecting £200. He asked what guitarists I liked and I said James Dean Bradfield and he spat his tea out. He then said "But you look so nice"

The shopping has been illuminating and quite fun.

Well done!

I decided to restart playing this year, having once played 'a bit', 25 or so years ago. By which I mean, never had any lessons, but learned to strum Dylan and Beatles songs from books with the little diagrams. But stopped, for decades. The one thing I decided this year was that I wouldn't be unrealistic, but I would be consistent. Which means not trying to to more than - but almost always doing - about 15 minutes a day. Just that. And it's worked. Might be a thought...

But mainly, well done. You'll never regret it.

We thought that we would start with 15 - 20 mins in the morning, building up to 30 mins and see how it goes.
The guitar that I didn't go for in the end, is the one that hubby really liked. A Washburn Electro Cutaway Antiqus Sunburst (I think that's what the chap wrote down anyway, his writing is a bit squiggly) so he is going to see if its still there in a week and possibly look to buy it.

Well done, haven't got a clue about guitars I'm afraid but it's great that you have gone and done it.
Happy strumming:laugh:

Are you going to serenade us round the New Forest ?
and ride all that way no handed:ohmy: scaring the ponies with my Corncrake like voice.
Nope! I don't think so.

Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
This is most joyous news!!!:bravo:

:welcome: to your new addiction:laugh:

Although ive never had a lesson in my life I think it's best to get one to one coaching/lessons at least to start with. Getting the basics perfect before you jump into learning all you fav songs etc will pay dividends later.

if I can help with any questions just pm me:becool:
