on my way home from work i was nearly ran into the side by wvm,,he def had to drive very close to me as after he passed he moved over and into lane prop,,so i caught up with him at lights ,,i could see he was in the filter lane and couldnt move his van ,,so my original intention was to let him know what i thought of him ,,anyway just as i got to the lights they went green and he started moving (bearing in mind im closing at a fair rate of knots),,and i thought "the swine is gona turn ,,"i go the other way and i wouldnt get a chance to remonstrate ,,so in a flash i decided to spit(yeuchh ,,not a habit i do reg ,,now just before i left work i had a drink of milk ,,you know what i mean  so anway ,,just as i approached i could see his drivers window was down ,,result i thought
a nicely timed /aimed grogger right through the open window as i passed hit him right on the face ,,,karma ,,i was pissing myself and just cycled off with him turning the other way

priceless

Two problems with that. One is the potential for DNA.

Secondly - does the guy even know he nearly made you come a cropper? If not as far as he's concerned some cyclist has just gobbed on him for no reason what so ever.

In all honesty its disgusting. Having a polite word, fair enough, contacting his company/boss, fair enough. But gobbing is grim.

defo!!!he swerved in towards me ,,and once he passed me moved back into the centre of the lane ,,he knew who i was and why i did it as said the option of having a wordhe was was driving away from me,,and if he drove like that towards me im sure he wouldnt have been receptive to me offering advice ,,in my opinion he deserved more than being spat on ,,spur of the moment

Just take his details and report him next time, you never know, he might already have some outstanding complaints/offences against him and an additional report might encourage the police to take some action.

Yeah got to agree it's foul. I'm always up for a row if someone causes me a problem but I'd draw the line at spitting.

I did once growl at a cabbie. He was my second near miss in about a minute and I had no swear words left.

That's sick.

People like you are why people like him (i.e. people who hate cyclists) hate cyclists.

Well done, cock.

I might be old fashioned but I'd rather punch someone than spit on them.
Not that I'm advocating cycling around punching folk of course.

The spit is quite disgusting and it's also quite snidey - spitting & running - it's not very "manly" and you just end up looking like a dirty little oik, and if I were a van driver being spat on by cyclists, I'd be blocking anyone's path, sitting in the ASL and the lane into it and doing everything I could to make sure no more of the dirty buggers got anywhere near gobbing on me.

I had someone spit at my car once, he took a dislike to my quite legal use of the horn to stop him continuing into my lane (and thus my front wing)

He wound his window down, pointed his ugly mug at me and launched a "greenie" that ran down my side window. He didn't look intimidating, he didn't "win" - he just showed himself up to be a vile thug.

A van passenger spat at me once because I had the audacity to use a zebra crossing and he had to stop. It was horrible, intrusive. It felt like I'd been assaulted.
