I don't want an X Box, I wouldn't know how to use one and they sound so mind numbingly boring!

Something I came across recently, for those of us that had a Commodore Amiga, is the Amiga 600GS and Amiga1200NG.

These are modern compatable versions of the A600 and A1200, the 600 is probably the most user friendly as its an all in one kit. The 1200 version is just a motherboard, some accessories are available, but you will need a case, drive, HDD etc. I'm keeping an eye on an expected 1200 in full kit that should release this year. I've got pretty big collection of Amiga stuff still and if I got that all working again I'd be pretty happy lol.

I like sports simulation games. I'm addicted to the snooker game on Virtual Pool 4, probably the most realistic snooker game ever made. I have considered a games machine but I'm confused by the number available.

Anyone recommend a decent golf game for the PC?

I remember when arcade games became popular and every newsagent or cafe had a Space Invaders, Asteroids, or Commando machine in it.

I had mates who would spend hours huddled round them, but I could never get into them properly as I'd rather have been outside on my bike or playing football. Same with home computers, waiting for Horace goes Skiing to try and load from a cassette tape onto a ZX81 at the third attempt was enough to make me want to tap dance all over it.

When I was at college we had a Commando arcade game in the NUS bar and that got quite competitive, I even held the high score a few times, the whole home console thing passed me by though.

The most I do now is have a few games on my phone, Minesweeper, Candy Crush, and a snooker game.

I spent several years working in the video game industry (doing boring stuff). I've never played anything more advanced than minesweeper.

But lots of people like them Accy, so don't knock what you've never tried.

I'm a software tester by trade, I've never once considered a career in gaming. Hearing tales of having to repeat the same action 1000 times, all day, every day make working in video games sound as boring as Accy thinks they are!

No, I havnt had a games console since the Sega MegaDrive. I tried Call of Duty a couple times with my son who excels at it ...the setup, choosing locations, weapons, armour, etc etc etc just bores me then, playing the game is like a tsunami of movement and action, you (i) just can't keep up, so you get killed over and over.
The last game I did really well at was Sonic on the Megadrive, I'd spend hours on it, but that would have been early 90s perhaps ?

Likewise, I think I still have my old Sega Megadrive up in the loft together with the Sonic game cartridge. I have had nothing since, but a mate has persuaded me to build a car racing 'Sim' rig so thzt we can relive our old track day antics virtually.

I've never heard a ZX81 described as a games machine.

But i do like a Hawaiian Pizza.
Sometimes i put on some extra pineapple.

Oh, and i enjoy the odd game of Minecraft, about once a year.

I've just downloaded Steam. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I can do with it.

I know I need that, but am relying on my more tech savvy mate to help me sort the software as he has already got his up and running.

Where you too old at 13 years old to play Space Invaders?

Similar to Gunk, born in 1964, and never played any video / computer games, never had a console etc., although my son did in the 90's. He quickly grew out of it.

Our friends, similar age to us, have a 30 year old son and his fiancee (same age) who play computer games all evening, weekends and holidays. Other than being somewhat pale
of skin, and a tad listless, they seem a nice couple.

Vaguely remember playing Space invaders once, and thought, not as as good as riding my bike or building a den down the park, so never bothered again.

Heyho, each to their own and all that.
