Bad luck at meeting such a bad tempered indiviual, AndyB. The main thing is that you are relatively unhurt and the next good point is that the police seem to be taking it seriously. I hope the third good thing will be you telling us on here that they have actually caught up with this excuse for humanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

glad to hear you survived relatively unscathed anyways. It just doesn't pay to escalate these situations really . They have a very heavy vehicle to use as a weapon and we have nothing . Only takes a second to sideswipe you and drive off.

maybe we cyclists should invent a `sorry' gesture to defuse situations like this . I am a bit of a stubbon b***er myself and know to my cost how easily these things escalate.

I once stopped my car in the middle of the road to go back and see what some jerk kept tooting me for at a series of roundabouts. I was remonstrating with the guy when out of nowhere this 6'6" giant of a man appeared at my sholder shouting in a complete rage looking like he was about to punch me. I'm no mouse myself at 17.5 stone 6'00" but my back was screwed and I couldn't have even defended myself.

Lucky to extricate myself from thatone without a spell in A & E

I wonder if completely blanking them is a better strategy. If I came across someone on the street, bus or the train who was clearly behaving irrationally or maybe drink or drugs. I would tend to avoid the person, avoid eye contact at all costs as the danger signals are obvious?

When they are inside vehicles, usually behind you they just look like everybody else until it's too late and they've completely flipped and gone ballistic.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychopathy
"It is estimated that approximately one percent of the general population are psychopaths."

Well, let's see if the boys in blue trace him....then he'd be pooping his pants.

You might have to practice the death stare instead - no emotion, just stare at them....

TWAT!

WOW - got to give it to you there man seriously - sounds like you stood your ground. What a Gentleman you are having stopped down the road: not many would have done that.

When you mention about riding at the gap - as much as it sounds kamikazee = I generally ride at people now if they want it as I'm not bothered WHY because if htey;ve the inteligence to WANT or GOAD me/you into it and act stupid then let them have it, well thats my opinion.

I've sprinted at a few people now: they realise 90kg of me alone ios not worth it and if I ever do hit anyone then the 1st owrds out of my mouth would be 'well what juh stand in the road for, i tried to avoid you'

Hardly surprising so many CD's went past you. Its supremely principle on the road then it gets physical.

A cardriver and cyclist will never get on as they're totally diff. things.

Thats why a motorcyclist can get away with it: they have the power to equal and surpass a car and cardrivers know that too, thats why they hate them; cept we get the shoot as we dont have the power, just honesty and fitness.

Still, as long as you're ok and survived, quite a big deal Andy; thats a fact !

I know that I, and im sure a good few are with you on this lad !

All the best.

Don't blame the car for the knob behind the wheel Yenrod. Knobbish behaviour isn't exclusive to 4x4s

I've had a few drivers of regular cars in heavy traffic try and block me out over the years when on the m/cycle, but never threaten me because of it. Sadly, I think in general, there is a fair bit more respect on the road afforded to motorcyclists than cyclists, and 99% of drivers move over to let you through.

Anyway, this idiot should be charged with common assault Andy. Stick to your guns and get some justice.

Nasty! Very nasty! Lets hope the police get somewhere with this one. I would be very annoyed if they didn't take it further than a talking to. Hitting someone on a moving bike is incredibly dangerous.

As you know I'm not one for keeping quiet. I hate bullies and I will always stand up to them. It probably isn't the right thing to do, but, as I have said before, too many people ignore what goes on around them and justify it by saying it is someone elses problem.

Anyway, keep us posted.

I'm actually having a good time on the roads at the moment. I'm seeing plenty of mobile phone drivers, folk without seatbelts on, pavement cyclists etc but no incidents to report. Long may it continue!

This person clearly has no friends, his family mostly despise him as do his colleagues, his dog can't bear to be in the same room as him and he will live a long but intensely painful and unsatisfying life as everything he cares about gradually crumbles around him leaving him cold, alone and suffering.

I've always thought the waving and smiling is provocative to the sorts of drivers it's done to

I got punched under very similar circumstances once although I gave the finger

Is this one of those guess who it is games? Hmmm. Let me think. Who could this be....

Nasty. Hope he gets a wee visit from the boys in blue for his trouble (and his hand hurts like buggery).

(Funny, I expected Mr Hippo to pop by and tell you it was all your fault like he does whenever Magnatom posts a story like this )

Ah, but there is no video to quibble over so I doubt he'll take the bait! Anyway, I think it is just me he doesn't like. What's not to like......

Well you got the reaction you wanted with the blowing kisses and smile wave thing, but this time it happened to be a short tempered nutter who acted instead of just getting a high heart rate.I would take this as a good learning curve and stop trying to wind the driver up,even if he is an idiot, next time you might get an even worse reaction.

well, you walked away from this one; it wouldn't have taken much for thecar to swerve into you.

keep pressing the police and make sure they throw the book.

it is likely the driver was on a regular commute - maybe workthwhile hangoing round the same spot with camera. notepad? (obviously don;t tkae your bike with you so as not to appearto be the same person).
