Yesterday whilst I was cleaning my bike, I had a neighbour approach me and ask whether or not I would like to go out for a ride with him sometime.
I said okay and sure enough he appeared 5 mins later on his bike asking about going out now. I didnt want to turn him down so got changed quickly and we headed off to do a 12 mile route.

What confused me the most however. was that when I was in front, he kept falling behind so our average was quite low. But when I let him go in front, he pushed the average up to 20mph and I had difficulty keeping up.

I think I will be going out with him quite a lot this summer as he does seem keen especially as he has a Specialised race bike and he said that him and him boss used to go out quite a lot. He is an alright guy and I see him going out a lot so we both have had an advantage of him approaching me.

Its good to see someone with the same opinion to cycling as me.

An added bonus would be you'll get less hassle from motorists with an adult with you, they won't see you as young easy bait, to argue with

Another thing it's always better with two :becool:

That didnt cross my mind RL and OFF. Well at least I was wearing a helmet. And I did take that into consideration as I tryed to keep to a cycle path route.

Nice one Mathew. Allways more fun with a buddy.I have ridden with people who drop back when following then up the speed when in front, I think some people need someone else to set a steady pace.Either that or you need to ease up on the Vindaloo.:becool:

Funny, you always seem to speed up when the amber nectar is mentioned.... come to think of it so do I !^_^

Wish I had a cycling friend
Always good to ride with someone else though!

for what its worth I find riding behind people harder than setting the pace. I dont know why though, just dont feel comfortable in that position.

Nice one Matt ;) - I'm trying to infect everyone I know with my cycling bug and it's falling on deaf ears. Except for my fiancée, who two days ago refused to buy a bike and today bought a folding bike off eBay and now loves it cos it's purple and has a basket. Small victories
