Not to boast but I dont do things by half  .
I knew i had cataract problems, particularly in my left eye but when I had a recent eye test she picked up on the fact I had glaucoma and sent me to the hospital.
I had no idea what glaucoma** is but mine is quite advanced and need sorting.
Been to hospital today and they say the cataracts need sorting first as they are pressing on the lenses.......when that is done they can assess the glaucoma more clearly (no pun intended).
They are going to give me a general anaesthetic and do both cataracts at the same time, I am now waiting to find out when.
**I was told there are over 25 types of Glaucoma. In my case the lenses are narrowing which prevents fluid circulating.
In many cases that can be controlled with drops but the type I have can't.
The optician said, if I dont get it sorted then one day I will wake up completely blind and its irreversible. Strangely I prefer that not to happen!!!.
So, as much as I dislike hospitals the sooner I can have the double op' the better.

I am a type 1 Diabetic and Glaucoma is checked for regularly at my clinics, fortunately I am in control of my diabetes.
I have had one Cataract operation at my local hospital day surgery. It only took ten minutes to complete and I watched every step because I couldant close my eye. However, the operation is quick and painless you will probably have one eye done then the other a few months later. Cataract operations usually have priority and you should be seen quickly (see what I did there).

As I said, they are doing both together under general anaesthetic

I have my surgeon penned in to do my cataracts when they finally arrive. Will have 2 done at once, drops in the eyes to numb and all done in less than 20 minutes.

Not sure why they are giving you a GA for cataracts

I have only got one good eye,and that has floaters now and again like black worms and spots, plus a cataract which is 'cooking' nicely whatever that means. The Specsaver people have said i will need to see a Surgeon in the near future.

I was diagnosed aged 40yrs with Open Angle Glaucoma 30 years ago. I've had four operations under local anaesthetic. The combined the cataract removal with the glaucoma operation. I take drops daily to slow down the degeneration.

Been half way there. Big surprise to me, smart girl at Specsavers spotted it and got things moving.
Lifetime user of drops now, 4 types through the day.
Left lense replaced and go next week to decide what to do about the right eye.

Good luck with yours.

Update.
The waiting time is 4-6 months. I have told them I will accept any last minute cancellation so hopefully that will reduce the wait.

regarding cateracts: my late father had them in both eyes, and though astonishingly still legal to drive, in all honesty could hardly see. After having them done, aged 90+ his eyesight was better than mine and he could even read without glasses. It was done as day surgery, and seemingly not that unpleasant or painful but basically a miracle cure.

Dunno much about glaucoma but understand it is eminently treatable

Chances are he never very reported it to DVLA, it's a common occurance.

The wife had her cataracts done and has gone from a -13 persciption to perfect distance vision, but she still needs reading glasses.
