I have noticed the "summer crew" disappearing one by one on my commute...anyone else noticed ?

Forgot to add that our motorised brothers and sisters do seem significantly grumpier recently.

The reports i got from various people at work about the chaos the rain has caused cheered me up no end,i am just glad i chose two wheels and water proofs !

I've wavered on a couple of days. But when I do I get the bus there and walk home, so no car use. I probably won't ride in snow and ice when it comes, don't trust my abilities really.

On the days where I look out of the window and wonder if I should be riding, I remind myself that I used to cycle when I did my paper round in all weathers as a 13 year old boy.

That's all the motivation I need to climb on the steed...

I don't commute everyday on my bike because of the nature of my job, but i do it more at this time of year, i look at it as a great way to keep my mileage up in the winter months when evening training rides out in the countryside are pretty much out. Saying that i never see many people commuting on my route even in the summer so couldn't say if many have fallen by the wayside recently.

It's great isn't it....less queue for the showers at work too. I just hate tube strikes because it changes my commute into an amble. i need a fashion bike with a wicker basket for tube strikes. hehehe

It seems I am the reverse of this trend. I've got lazy over the last couple of months and got into the habit of getting a lift with a friend. I've just changed the hours I am working and have started cycling to work again.

I don't see many other cyclists anyway, either at work or on my way to work. There was a Specialized something-or-other (all modern bikes look the same to me, sorry) in the rack the other day, complete with SPDs, so there's at least one other proper cyclist there.

The temperatures out here have droped significantly this week (not as bad as the UK) and there has not been a drop in the numbers on bikes, as most have no other transport options, but the smiling faces have disappeared under many layers of hats, wollen face masks and thick anoraks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still commute cycling. My motivation is that I think I'm a relatively slow cyclist and I'm hoping the winter (and winds) will help train me to be a stronger cyclist so when the Spring comes I'll be up there with the best of them!

I have noticed it has gone the other way here. I've been commuting since April and I have never seen as many cyclists on my commute as I have done this week. It seems the worse the weather the more there are, they must be part of an extreme cyclist club who only come out in 50mph+ winds/rain/hail.

I feel like I could... TAKE ON THE WORLD!!
When I started mid summer there were two elderly gentleman I would pass every morning regular as clockwork, I could tell if I was late by when I met them. One of them finally spoke, it was the last time i saw him

They both disappeared on the same week so now its just me

It's bliss at work, loads of bike parking space and the showers are nearly always free. My regular commute seems (almost) peanut free of late as well, hooray!

Quite a few riders at my company are new to two wheels and I didn't cycle through my first winter so it may be a different story next year.

I've done two winters (apart from the icy days).

My mistake[1] was to give myself the option not to by buying a Brompton ;-)

[1] Having seen the rain, may not actually have been a mistake

Drop in cycle numbers and also the scooter riders have given up too which is brilliant. Makes the A23 bus lane which is open to motorbikes/scooters much safer to use.
