I get a similar warning from drivers alerting me to traffic stopping in a long line ahead in the distance: "Far Queue!"

I did something similar 8 1/2 weeks ago, but I broke my hand and elbow

Luckily I protected my bike with my hand, so no damage there.

Not so good for the car

The driver also had my details but has not contacted me.

I think my years of judo training helped. I know how to land/hit things softly!

Not me.Although I have never used disc brakes I would have thought they were better than rim brakes.

Surely the final deciding factor is the grip the tyre has on the road surface anyway?

No doubt,but I have had some bikes with terrible brakes including the current bikes back brake which I think probably needs replacing.

Never had any wheel-locking issues with the disc brakes on the MTB in the two years I used it for commuting. Once had to brake so hard that I nearly went over the bars as the bike did a front-wheelie! I guess Marathon Plus were pretty grippy....
