Bimbling along Whitehall today I notice an interesting-looking cycle-tourer behind.
I slow to say hello and the bloke asks directions to Kings Cross. Well, it's probably easier to ride than explain from here so off we set. I can see from his CTC cap that he's on his way from the south coast and he explains he has 25 minutes to make his connection to Cambridge from whence he's touring to my hometwon in the north of England.
Well, there's some kind of charity run going on nearby with road closures and the traffic's heavy and this experienced-looking fella's carrying a lot of Carradice luggage and I guess in his 70s so even though I know these roads we're under a little time pressure.
Ach, in hindsight I might have chosen to cut behind High Holborn and via Grays Inn Rd but too the busier Southampton Way option but long story short we arrive outside the station with ten minutes for him to find his train, I just hope he managed to get on it.
