I just think it pays to be a bit more patient around peds, whatever the case.

Outside UNI is always going to be a busy place for ped traffic. Most people who walk together like to be next to each other so they can chat....makes more sense to do a few 'excuse mes' and just go past slowly (or just give up using the faciltity);)

Yeah, I think I'll continue not using it. It's a nice idea poorly executed, like most of Portsmouth's cycle facilities.
I am usually patient with pedestrians although I rarely use shared use paths so as not to give cyclists a bad rep with people who don't understand shared use for cycling on the path. Although why I'm not sure as drivers don't seem to understand shared use much of the time and I use the roads ;)

I have a bit of path that takes me past a red light, and have no qualms about using it. It's very obviously a cycle path, as the on-road lane leads straight onto it, as the pavement sticks out at that point - to avoid it I'd have to ride out of the cycle lane on the road (which I could, but why bother if it means stopping). It puts me back on the road in similar style, a few yards later.

The only odd thing about it is that it's two-way marked with arrows showing which side to ride - and they are the wrong way round - you would pass left to left. But I've never seen anyone coming the other way, because, well, it would lead straight onto the wrong side of the road...

And it's not RLJing, as there's no stop line to cross illegally.

Well, here's a thought for you all: when I am not cycling, I inline skate (you could say "rollerblading" but then Rollerblade come after you for trademark infringement). As an inline skater it is entirely unknown whether I am a pedestrian or a vehicle (or two vehicles - one on each foot?). That is to say, there is no statute law, there is as far as I know no case law, and the DfT have no guidance.

If I am skating along the road and go through a red light, is it illegal? Should I do it, should I not?

Technically, you didn't actually RLJ, because you didn't actually go through the lights.

Well obviously...but "I managed to get past a red light by briefly and legally using a cycle path" didn't quite have the same ring to it :ohmy:

Ultimately, I managed to get past a red light, thus I managed to jump it.

....technically, no one red light jumps...unless they bunny hop over the line
