I always thought it would be dangerous but it turned out OK, I have a mirror so no unexpected overtakes. I know it's been debated on here before. I'll defiantly listen to more music when cycling on the roads that I know.

CC would be defiantly dull without the auto correct!

Can't anyone do anything without background music any more? Why can't you just be satisfied with mother nature's sounds?

The swish of tyres on tarmac, the fecking annoying clicks and creaks you can't pin down, the crunch of botched changes on a neglected drive train, the cursing and swearing on the way up a hill, the gasping for breath and the magical sound of a snot rocket leaving your nostrils when you reach the top.

You youngsters just don't get the romance of this cycling lark, do you?

I've only done it a handful of times and really enjoyed it. I ride alone in the main so, so on a long ride it can break up the boredom and distract you from the pain! It can also help with finding a cadence rhythm, if that makes sense.

However I seem to take the earplugs out on big climbs though. I think so I can concentrate, which makes no sense really. Just a habit.

If you hear a car, bus or truck behind you what exactly are you going to do about it? Pull in and dismount until they pass? If you're in the right road position then you have to have faith they will safely pass, don't you, music or no music?

I don't listen to music in town / city as I need to fully concentrate on multiple lanes, lights and pedestrians etc. However out in the sticks on my own I would listen to music if I felt like it. If I get flattened at least I won't hear it coming :okay:

In Leeds city centre and certain multiple lane stretches of my commute I can hear traffic approaching and be on edge waiting for something to hit me. I really don't like one particular stretch and breath a sigh of relief every night when I make it to the what I consider to be the 'safe zone' where it returns from four lanes to one.

I've always listened to music on the commute for the last 20 years or so. Never had a problem. The trick is I guess just not to have it on too loud. I can still hear the numerous faster cyclists approaching me from behind, let alone cars etc.
It's horses for courses really, some folk seem to get on fine with music while riding, others, for some reason don't. Probably best left at that.

Its when you take your hands off the bars to do the electric boogaloo . I'm having major problems with that bad ass move !

from the thread title i thought... he's listened to music through headphones for the first time... ever!

So in light of that... i suggest the self proclaimed 'headphone album' album titled Levitation by Hawkwind... not necessarily whilst cycling mind.
