As is got my comeuppance...
Turning into my road I see that a fork lift truck is working on the building site opposite and is currently across the width of the road (it's only really one vehicle wide). Just before it is a dropped kerb on the right, so I thought, just this once I'll be utterly wanton and ride up onto the pavement to pass the back of the forklift, by which time I'll be at the turn in to my flat.
Only I hit the drop at too shallow an angle, the front wheel bumped into it and skidded, and I toppled over the wrong way (I always put my left foot down instinctively, I toppled right). Only grabbing a pilaster rendered in relief beside the door of the house next to the drop kerb stopped me going all the way over in an ungainly heap.
I dismounted, and walked. Serves me right.
