I think I've had a bad week of cycling, full of tw@ts, but it seems to be nothing to do with the Olympics, just the hot weather. Apart from that, traffic's been fine, and not a problem to deal with on a bicycle.

Cycling in London is a piece of piss if done right - as is cycling in general.

Nothing to "pity" from my perspective.

Roads are gloriously quiet at the moment. Beat my fastest commute in time this morning :bicycle:

Not helped by conflicting olympic lanes signs. First one said "All vehicles allowed in Games Lanes", then a kilometre further on "Games lanes now operating. Games vehicles only".
That seems pretty sensible to me and along the lines of what TfL promised, ie the Games Lanes would only operate where necessary.

The news, from a foreign news channel, stated many Londoners had left the capital for the duration of the games therefore reducing the potential traffic problems.

a look at the holiday chart in work and a discussion last week confirms this for my current project . Have spent a lovely day on a steam train " Black 5" in Llangollen . I didn't see patrick though

Never known cycling across central London to be easier, faster or less disturbed by cars. The streets have been bordering on the deserted - a friend of mine took a photo of Park Lane during rush hour and there was not a single car in shot. I don't know where the cars have gone, but it's great!

I'm loving it so far this week - no pity needed.

My route has one minor change in it, and there is less traffic about

West London seemed spookily empty today. I asked a cabbie at a red light if it was quiet everywhere and he said he thought that people were just not coming in to work. He said that he wasn't getting nearly the usual volume of fares.

Traffic really quite light - only Bow roundabout congested and tailed back. Talking about Bow, anyone take the flyover Eastbound? WTF have they done with those cones? There are signs that seem to indicate for cycles to use the inside lane inside the cones but then you get to the bottom of the flyover and have to slalom through a small gap in the cones to the left whilst "giving way" to traffic accelerating up the slip road. Or presumably sit in the outside lane in primary and hope there aren't any nutters who will prefer to run through you than wait behind.

Why have they decided to make the flyover - which is OK normally except the on ramp at the end, more dangerous and almost suicidal at the on-ramp?

Are the people who put these cones in really f*cking stupid or do you think they hate cyclists?

Are they like these ridiculous things recently added in Croydon?

I have a video of the layout. Note that the CS2 exit to the roundabout is buried somewhere underneath the mess of traffic at the beginning.

I consider the best option for this idiotic layout is to stay in the outside lane in primary, but you will get angry drivers behind you, some of whom will probably try to force their way through anyway. One cyclist was in the outside lane but next to the cones and was being overtaken at speed by traffic. They must have been inches from him - it looked utterly terrifying.

They have made the flyover much worse for cyclists than normal. The roundabout is almost completely inaccessible for cyclists with the traffic jams especially since CS2 disappears halfway down the slip road for a bus stop and now the flyover has been changed into some kind of Mad Max slalom course.
