Ultremo R's got recalled the new version is R1,make sure you're getting those Martin.

Beat me to it. Not all shops list them as R1 though, some are still listing as R (wiggle were one doing that last time I checked)

The recall seems to have been in 2009 so I'm assuming everything out there is now an R1 even if labelled as an R. Oh well if it fails, I get two free replacements!!!

No arm warmers and no 25s ever!!! Still think I should go back to 20s really.....

You Northern softie.
Real men ride 25s!

Nah the only person I know who has 25s is Abs and she's a girl (Hi Abs!!!), I rest my case.

And I must say that in 20 years of living up in the wilds of Lancashire I never once saw a cyclist in arm warmers

If its cold enough for arm warmers then imo its base layer time. ;)

I'm riding on 28s for the first time this year. Usually 23s. For a short while when I first got the Jake I was on 35s.

I think Abs has manned up a bit and got some 23's now,
Will see how many turn up to the CC ride on Sunday in armwarmers and report back, though it;s more Cheshire than Lancashire.

Third in six days, as of this evening, and all in the dark. It is getting a bit tedious. I would be grateful for any suggestions for a suitable tyre on London streets and the Thames Path, all paved.

The bike is a Dawes hybrid and the current tyres are cheapy 700c x 25c.

Thanks.

A pair of Marathon Plus Martin - without a doubt. Evans have got them 'off the peg' about £29ea. minus 10% (don't forget your CTC membership card for a 10% discount) Spa Cycles often do deals on them, along with others, GB Cycles etc...but I'm sure you know bargain hunting...In my experience of daily commute, these do for me. Once upon a time I used Gatorskins, which seemed to be good for a while but failed...long before the M+. Nice 'See Me!' reflective strip around the sidewalls of M+ also. Or here, of course! ;)

Top Man!

I'm reaching for my ever-thinning wallet....

Thanks

I have the same problem when I put my hand on my head...

Oh, by the way, there is a neat video on the tube about how to fit a M+ - which is a 'sturdy tyre'. Odd way to do it but it worked. His principle of 'gathering the 'slack' in order to encourage the last bit of bead over the tyre rim is the key thing... As part of your tyre kit, invest in some Bontrager levers, or similar. They are red - and equally sturdy. Big strong toys for big strong boys. (I have snapped a few Park tools ones and swapped to Bontrager as they are nice and curvy and come in pairs, not threes). Here endeth the useless information section

Not seen those levers before. Never snapped a Park one though (mine seem pretty thick). I must be the only person on here NOT using M+. I just cant bring myself to do it.
