I have been commuting to work since October last year (only once or twice a week) today I got my first punture

It was all going ok, took me a while (about 15 mins) but i replaced the tube and tyre. Some kind cyclist even asked me if I was ok, I said I was fine and he went on his way. When I put air in the tube the tyre kept pushing out of the rim.

NIGHTMARE! I tried deflating and adjusting (another 5 - 10 minutes had passed) and I still could not manage to sort it. In the end I had to walk nearly 2 miles back home to get changed and go to work in the car.

I have changed a lot of tyres on mountain bike no problem but this is the first road bike I have owned and I couldnt sort it.

I was an hour late for work. Worst part is my wife says "I told you that bike was less reliable than a car"

I am humiliated:blush:

Don't say that word.

It wasn't throught Arbourthorne/Heeley was it? Your bicycle looks familiar.

Definitely a nuisance and I know what you mean about tyres, I find MTB tyres much easier to change on other people's bikes.

It was on Prince of Wales road going down from Arbourthorne towards Darnall.

I am still annoyed with myself I hate it when I cant do something. I will change that tyre 100 times tonight until I can do it like a F1 pit crew.

I find that with narrow tyres, it's best to start at the valve and first of all, push the valve stem back into the tyre as there is often a hard spot on the tube around the valve which will get trapped under the tyre bead if you don't push it into back into the tyre first. Long valve stems make this easier but you need to push it back until you have just enough valve stem to keep hold of.

Ah, not good, at least it wasn't raining I hope!
I'm getting quite good at fixing punctures. Thankfully the first time I got a puncture I was out with some others and they helped me change it. Otherwise I'd probably still be there trying to get the tyre off! My hybrid is a doddle to get the tyre off etc, but I still struggle with the Marathons on my Galaxy.

It's alright, he spelled it wrong
I hope this was deliberate!

Hmmm I have never had an issue changing those which cannot be named, especially with the inner tube pushing the tyre out of the rim :s ..... I guess I am just lucky with my tyres.
