So there I am on a nice piece of road, great surface, slight downhill doing 35 mph according to the GPS when a guy in a BMW passes me, setting off a speed scamera, he brakes luckily not pulling in, I continue, I make a couple of turns and pull up at the pub, get off, lock the trike and head inside to meet some friends. I'm just taking my first sip of guiness when this red faced chap shouts "who's is that funny bike outside", everyone knows me so they all look at me while the barman says "it's a trike mate", so the guy comes over and says "you owe me £60". I look at him and go back to the dark stuff, obviously a nutter, thinks I. He then explains that he was the BMW driver and if I was not going so fast he would not have had to speed to pass me, hence he would not have been caught by the camera, priceless, the barman banned him.

The camera takes two pics, hence the double flash of the gun, and the equally placed markers painted in the road can then be used to calculate your speed using the resultant pictures. Therefore, if for example two cars are in the pic, it can be shown who was above the limit

not sure if i've understood you correctly,

the driver is claiming he would not have been got speeding if the op had been going slower or not been there, because the op was going at the speed limit or slightly above, the driver of the BMW had to break the speed limit in order to get past.



what the speed cameras don't take into account is that you can break the speed limit in order to overtake a slower moving vehicle if its the safe thing to do in order to minimumise the amount of time spent on the wrong side of the road provided you drop back to the correct speed once past the slower vehicle

obviously if this was allowed for people would just use the wrong side in order to avoid the fine.

You should contact the Police (or whoever looks after the cameras) telling them of the c*ck in the BMW who aggressively overtook you and then verbally assaulted you in the pub about it being your fault... date / time and they should be able to track down his nice image on the camera and have a quiet work alongside his fine... he'd be pleased you went to so much trouble, I'm sure.
