Lack of maturity, moi? Being 40+ I don't often hear that.

Repeating what Tollers said - what delight? Where have I said I delighted in it? Perhaps you think I should have been more distressed and in need of counciling because of this twat of a cab driver's actions? He got all uppity and tried to intimidate me and failed totally.

As for the PCO, yeah, right, they've proved very effective in the past haven't they.....

p.s Joebe. If you ride down Northumberland Ave then along the river to Tower Hill, you probably pass me every morning heading in the opposite direction.

If you ride in on Doris, ill keep my eyes open.

I don't think that's a very fair comment. It doesn't seem to match the OP's post at all.

Perhaps I should point out that jmaccyd is a cabbie, though I don't hold that against him. IME cabbies are mostly excellent road users and I very rarely have trouble with them. Most of the time I get to enjoy a pleasant chat at the lights and lots of good moving interactions. I think they have an unfairly bad reputation amongst cyclists, and that the reality is that cabbies are far better than the average motorist.

Depends where you are I think. The majority in some cities I've lived in have been spot on. The majority here in Cambridge give way too little space when overtaking cyclists.

I tend to think that as alarming as a close pass can be Taxi drivers spend so much more time on the road they are able to judge distances a little better that the average driver.
As with any trade driver it is the minority who cause the trouble and, sadly, these tend to be the only ones we hear about.

Naah, judging a passing distance that will be unlikely to result in a collision isn't the issue, that in itself isn't that hard. However good a motorist thinks he is thats still a needless increase in risk, and I think taxi drivers often just get numbed to it, especially in cities where there are a lot of cyclists.

I don't really buy the 'pass close' because you kind of can argument. Driving in London is er..'challenging' at times, but even at the most difficult and congested traffic situations it really is possible with just a little patience combined with good postioning to give cyclists more than enough room.

My arguement is this, you get involved in a row, whatever small part you think you played in it - you both look foolish. Your description of the incident kind of reminds me of this scene from Monty Python,

I'll resist the urge to shout 'bloody peasant!'

You hit a vehicle I would say to get a reaction, you got a nasty and over the top reaction to be sure, may I therefore suggest as one mature person to another that you don't hit cars?

As for the PCO may I repeat my other (well worn) mantra - it now reports to the ELECTED mayor via TFL. You want change in the way the PCO operates in relation to driver complaints concerning driving standards - he's your man!

How do you know that? I don't get it. Surely hitting the vehicle to make sure the guy knew what he'd done would be just as good an explanation. Better, perhaps.
