I think I've lost a ring, but I'm not 100 percent sure I have so I'll keep looking. Have you ever lost something of value and did you ever find it?

I looked at my right hand yesterday and thought something didn't look right. Then It hit me! A gold ring I had on my right hand middle finger was missing. It was too late to launch a full search, so I looked around my flat then left it till the morning. Looking again when I woke up I didn't find it. The day I lost the ring involved quite a few miles of travel in my car mostly, but I did get out and walked around to various shops etc, so I could've lost it anywhere. My thoughts are that it's slipped off my finger when the temperature dropped. Causing my fingers to narrow slightly in width, which they do most days in the colder months, but sometimes in the warmer months when it can be cold, as we all know it can be. I'll continue the search tomorrow, but I've resigned myself to my likely loss. Have you ever lost a valuable item, whether it being of sentimental or monetary value and if so, did you ever find it?

yes, gold charm that mrs s gave me, after giving it up for lost it turned up in a fold of clothing where it had got caught after the rather worn attaching ring gave up

there's a small diamond that has concealed itself somewhere in one room and is yet to be found, and mrs s has scattered earrings across half the planet, only ever one of any given pair of course

things that can roll can trundle away and hide themselves

My Rolex, moved house and hadn’t got the safe fitted yet and had a series of builders, plumbers, etc and didn’t use it for circa 4 mths by which time it was missing. Not covered by the insurance either 🤬

Gave Mrs D my Tudor for a few hours while we were moving house andnI was humping furniture, only for her to then mislay her hand bag with said watch inside. It did turn up a few hours later but I didn't half flap in the meantime.

I gave the rest of my watches, ie, the ones I wasn't actually wearing, to Dsughter #1 to look after during the move.

I have many watches, a lot of which get little wear. I bought a Patek Philippe watch during the first lockdown and wore it a couple of time before it went in the safe. Went to get it out to wear to a wedding 18 months ago and couldn’t find it. Frantically searched high and low to no avail.

Fast forward to December 2024 and I was sorting out what I would be moving to Dumfries & Galloway with me. Searching through a pile of boxes I came across one, near the bottom, containg the Patek. Relief! I have a vague memory of considering selling it at one point and must have boxed it us for photos etc then forgotten.

Yes. A gold signet ring given to me on my 16th birthday by my, then, girlfriend. It was very precious to me and even though I've been very happily with my wife for 47 years that loss still hurts a little.

I was riding through town one day with cold fingers, it slipped off and dropped down a drain.

I've lost and found my wedding ring twice. Once when planting cabbage on my allotment. I dug up the cabbage plants until I found it. The other time I was riding along and thought "bugger, stone in my shoe." I wiggled my toes a bit to try and move the stone when I felt the stone slip over my little toe. Stopped, took off shoe, there was my wedding ring!!!!

These days I tape my ring to the finger when riding as my fingers do shrink in the cold.

Yes, a gold wedding ring.
At around 20 I was an engineering storeman, store full of parts bins and thousands of parts. One nightshift I had an accident on the way home and spent 2 months off work. When I came out of hospital we realised my ring was gone. I'd had major surgery so we guessed it had been lost either in the accident, pre surgery...whatever. gave it up as gone.
Around one year later I was at work doing a stock check which was an all weekend affair.
I pulled out one of the bins of parts, parts that never moved and I only ever seemed to open at stock check.....and there sat my ring.

To this day I don't know how it ever got there, I only went in that bin once a year so I should have.missed it much sooner.

Mrs W has an engagement ring from a previous relationship which wears now again. We staying at my parents for a family wedding and after we got home she couldn’t find it. My parents looked for it and they couldn’t find it. Mrs W thought she might have taken it off during the night and it might have fallen it the bin and subsequently been through out. So she claimed for it on our insurance however a couple of years later she opened a rarely used handbag and there it was.
