I thought this cyclist was going to die...

Couldn't believe he did it again.

Then again, I couldn't believe that within 1/4 mile of having a go at a bus driver for passing whilst indicating left and pulling into a stop/into me, he then tried to bully past me going into a pinch point and wondered why I blocked him off completely and really let him have it.

Guess it shows that some drivers and cyclists have memories shorter than a goldfish.

What on earth is that cycle bypass that goes under the tunnel/into the station/whatever?

Seeing the standing traffic, I was tempted to take that and bypass the queue, but decided not to. Too many pedestrians and changes of surface.

That sent shivers up my spine. He seemed to be completely oblivious to the danger he was just in & then does it again even after being told that people die like that.

When I had car driving lessons, in the mid-70s in Germany, it was clearly explained to me how lorries and busses move, especially those with trailers or overlength, and I still apply this today, both when driving my car or riding the bike. There are still many car drivers which are impatient and mis-read the intentions of the big guys, especially when turning left. Impatient cyclists are just suicidal !!!

Just interesting really. Suicide man had plenty of space to filter on the right with 4 lane? and lights so I don't know bit odd how people read the same things.

A v good illustration of what not to do. Might be worth cross-posting in the HGV/cyclist sub-forum as it has educational value.

Its also a lesson that we shouldn't jump to conclusions when we hear of a cycling fatality, especially around HGVs. A death is always sad and tragic, but there are times when it just is the cyclist's fault.

You'll notice that I didn't choose to filter on the right as I didn't think there was a safe enough space for me, who's much narrower than he is. Well, not until much later when there was more room and the HGV was pointed off a little to the left.

Indeed, that guy is an accident looking for a place to happen - and he seems quite adept at finding good candidates for the places.

I can't believe anyone in their right mind would do that. I'm sorry to say it but he must be some sort of imbecile.

No, just your average unaware person.

I learned the long vehicle/left turning lesson when I was first cycling a lot. Mine was a bus. There were railings. I was lucky, and once I'd twisted the handlebars back straight, I knew never to do that again.

Unfortunately, he may only learn once it's too late. He'll think he 'got away with it, what's the problem?'.

Having done it once, had a close shave and then repeated it, I suspect he may not learn until/unless he's really injured. Probably a case of having no imagination - just can't see the consequences.
