I had it on my last computer which got nicked, therefore the playlist on my i-pod doesn't relate to the i-tunes on this one.

Is there any way of telling this computer to import the playlist from the i-pod? There doesn't seem to be.

Would this prevent the playlist from being "accidentally imported" if I lent the i-pod to a friend?

That's a tricky one. Apple assume you will buy new iPods but not new computers so they only allow iTunes to transfer music to the iPod in the initial sync and not the other way round - in fact if you try to sync a new computer and iTunes with an old iPod it will erase your iPod content. There are programmes out there you can use at a price but I think (but don't blame me if it doesn't work) you can back up your iPod, sync with iTunes (which, worry, worry, will erase your iPod library} and then restore your iPod from the backup and sync again. There are also quite a few videos and webpages on how to do it - google "ipod to pc transfer" or "ipod to mac" transfer as appropriate.

There is a way, but I'm buggered if I can remember what I did.
o a Google search, that's where I found out what to do. It's a bit laborious, because it's not imported in any form that you understand, then you have to convert each 'block'.

I sorted the exact same problem with a programme called "CopyTrans"

It cost just under a tenner but for the amount of stuff i have on my Ipod it was worth every penny. Simple to use, very quick, and foolproof. I would really recommend it to anyone.

I had my laptop, iPhone & iPod nicked all at once so no import worries for me!!
On a plus note, I explained the problem to Apple and they let me access all my purchases again once i had new technology, thanks to the insurance. They also let me authorise the new laptop as we were already up to max licences in the house - apparently that's only something they allow once in 12 months.
