Sounds like a great adventure and I love the spontaneity of it but it is an extremely long way if you've just bought a bike!!

Parts of Tenerife are fabulous - Mt Teide - the geology is fascinating if you like that kinda thing (which I do, lots of a'a and pahoehoe). There's a tiny stretch of beach with green volcanic sand somewhere (at the other end of a nudist beach I think). Also there is good Spanish food there if you don't go to the chips-wiv-everyfink bit. For cyclists, I remember there is a tour company that takes you up the mountain and you freewheel down. Or you can cycle up first and be hench.

Amazing isn't it - that river of solidified lava that just drops off a cliff (in the caldera). There's a pine forest somewhere where you see tree trunks about 18" across apparently growing directly from the surface of an a'a flow.
