Arch I agree with you. At the time I wrote that post I must have momentarily believed I was living in a sane and rational world. I'm back on track again now.

Should be, but won't. The police might just care, the CPS might not, and if it even goes to court they might get sod all sentence. Good luck with getting a result, but don't hold your breath.</pessimist hat>

I'm sick of angry stupid people throwing their weight around. Sorry.

And don't expect anything from an insurance company either, they'll do anything but pay, even in a clear cut case...

might be worth taking the bike to a shop and getting a repair estimate from a kosher mechanic as that ought to be paid for too
absolutely. Take pictures of the damage, and, if you have cuts and bruises or tears to your clothing, take more pictures

I'd also contact Martin Porter via his website: http://thecyclingsilk.blogspot.com/

He was also assualted in a similar manner and the chap received a caution: http://thecyclingsil...ed-assault.html

Porter is now pursuing him for damages.

Sounds sensible advice.

He [Martin Porter] has another one on the go:

Lomas Court Date
Scott Lomas has been summonsed to attend a Magistrates' Court on 25th May to answer a charge that he used threatening abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress on 04th November 2010

Anyone know the details?

Wasn't Lomas the chap who told Porter he was 'going to kill him' for not deferring to his overtake at a pinch point?

Thanks for all the replies, links, words of encouragement and advice. Feeling kinda low and this really helps.

Must have banged my head as I realised I can't spell assaulted.

The police have been back in touch to get some more details which was nice of them. However, being the pessimist I don't hold out much hope of this getting anywhere (at least not very quickly). Especially as it was a hire van and it wasn't the driver, I'm thinking along the lines that if they ever do catch up with him he can say he didn't know the person he was "giving a lift" to.

As advised I have now also been to the docs to record my injuries.

On the bright side I have bought a replacement rear mech. Surprisingly the hanger still looks straight but had to change the whole unit as it was grated to hell. Sad thing is I was only admiring the good condition of my black steed the other day as it had just clocked up 5000 miles since I bought it.

Will have to suffer with trains for now.

just to be contrary, I suppose using the left tuen lane to undertake the other two lanes is technically bad driving/riding

I do it all the time I hasten to add

old skool van man.I have to say it warms my heart the incresingly few times I see a white van with a couple of chavvy herberts with their fwwt up on the dash readin the Sun and smoking

not in anyway at all condoning what happened to you

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I hope you do get some recourse through the police but i very much doubt it.

The police should contact the hire company as they should have full records of who was responsible for the van, can the coppers /lawyer use a bit of "we know it was you driving the van and you will be charged for xxx unless you provide us with the identity of the assaulter ? "

good Luck mate what a pair of cowards to pick on a vulnerable cyclist then dissapear.

Hire Vans are more often than not hired by companies rather than individuals. Hopefully if you can trace it through the hire company their employers will find ouit what a pair of pratts they have working for them.

I once traced a pair of Fly tippers in the same way. The director of the company they worked for was very obviously embarrased and angry , couldnt have been more apologetic.

If a 56cm Spesh Langster fixed wheel on 48x19 is any use to you, you're welcome to borrow mine.

Thanks BentMikey, really appreciate the offer. However, I'm still hobbling around at the moment, hopefully the delivery of my dérailleur will coincide with my ankle getting better.

Thanks mate.

You know I did think of that then it slipped my mind. Now pondering over it more I can't see them having the means or requirements for hiring a ten dollar hooker let alone a van.

I was contemplating (as someone suggested) ringing up the hire company, but did'nt bother because of the thought of being fobbed off due to data protection etc. Hmmm, wonder what the punishment is for impersonating pc plod (over the phone)...
