Bit of a regret that I had a provisional onto a Journalism Studies course in Aberdeen in the late eighties but didn't get the required passes - I thought that was it so never bothered contacting them again and just went and got a job instead. Now plodding through a Masters...

As a chunky (or, fat as my 'friends' would have it, I've seen the photos, nowhere near as fat as my brain thought) 17 year old at an all boys grammar, I was told the only way I could study my chosen A levels was to do the Geography course at the all girls school on the other side of town (I'd have had to have driven the car I had, JPS Ford Capri, to get there). I was sufficiently socially awkward that I turned the offer down and ended up taking a terrible choice of A levels that I failed quite comprehensively. I don't cry in my High 5 about it on a weekly basis, but as 'what if' questions go it's my biggie.

One of my best decisions was learning to type when at school - in a class full of girlies :okay: (and old typewriters) but I had a great male teacher and with the advent of computers it is probably the most useful skill I have.

Was in a "relationship" with a girl when I was 15, nothing serious - it was over the summer and so we never saw each other. She ended it, but I wish I had tried again.

Nicola Txxxxxx. I knew her from school and she was very bright, but gawky and awkward.

I hadn't seen her for 4 or 5 years when I was told by a friend that she'd seen me from afar and wanted to go out with me, and had been chasing him avidly for my phone number. He also added that she was now stunning. Clearly this was a wind-up and so I told him (and by proxy, her) to b*gger off.

About a year later, another mate mentioned that he had a new girlfriend and we went out on a double date, and yes it was Nicola. Stunning didn't even come close, and she remained as bright and witty as she always was, but now also had an attractive element of self confidence.

Nobber…….!

We all have them - regrets.

I was thinking about one of mine on the way back from the woods, when some Bruce Springsteen came on, and it reminded me - as it often does - of when a group of mates went down to Wembley for the now-legendary Independence Day gig in 1985, and I turned down the offer, essentially out of pique about the fact that my then girlfriend seemed a lot more excited about Bruce than she was about me. What a wally.

So, d'you ever get all misty-eyed and think, 'if only I hadn't....'?
I was at that gig, but my regret is that I turned down Live Aid tickets to be there .....

More regrets than turning down....

My dad was in the RAF so we moved around a lot while I was growing up in the late 70s and early 80s. I was usually the only Manchester City supporter in whatever school I was in - thanks for that dad, you Mancunian ****!

Around 1981, my dad was stationed at West Drayton and I went to school in an area of North London that was heavily Spurs. My dad was also a decent footballer and through a few mutual friends got to know a couple of the Spurs players, including the captain of the time, Steve Perryman. I even got to see my dad skinned all ways by Osvaldo Ardilles in a charity game.

This was before the era when footballers made megabucks, so Steve P had invested in a chain of sports shops for when he retired. A genuine gent, he donated a load of football gear to my school after he heard my dad moan about the state of the equipment.

Anyways, the epic City vs Spurs 1981 FA cup final and replay happens. I was there for both and I still can't see replays without welling up. Steve P hears about my upset and takes pity. He gives me a football signed by the entire 1981 FA Cup winning Tottenham squad.

I played footy with it until it rotted.

Thanks for your time. There's nothing on telly anyway.

At the moment im thinking..... what if i hadnt had that spinal operation in may.... mainly because im worse off after having it

My second operation for the Colitis. If I had known it would be a waste of time I wouldn't have gone through with it (there was too much scar tissue when they cut me open apparently). And to add insult to injury, it has caused me a few other problems too.
