Visited the newly opened deli/cafe as recommended by @postman at the end of the street to investigate their pies.

They only had pork and mushy pea pies on offer and I'd committed myself to purchasing one before I noticed the price. £1.75!!!

I was tempted by the Fitzpatrick cordials for sale then spotted the price £5 - widely available elsewhere for £4

Now come on. That's taking the mick. Putting a napkin in the paper bag with the pie isn't the sort of added value that justifies that sort of price hike.

Crust - looked good but soft offering little resistance to bite.

Mushy pea topping looked good but some suspicious dark green flecks - mint! How dare they! First bite confirmed the mint and vinegar of mint sauce.

Pork content - chopped pork rather than minced promising but unremarkable.

4/10

Well that's my first and last visit to the emporium of overpricing over.

Fitzpatrick's has gone right down the pan since the family sold out to the current owner, who has industrialised the entire setup with those horrible cordials that he makes in a small unit on the Grane Road in Haslingden. Basically sugar solution, colour and flavour, to which he adds carbonated water in the shop. Unfortunately a couple of years ago the new owner got done for drink-driving - oops!

On the pork pies, I'm still reminiscing about the absolutely superb pie I bought from Dickinson & Morris in the middle of Melton Mowbray. The white-wrapped version is made in the actual shop, which smells wonderfully of roast pork. while the red-wrapped version is factory made - almost as good but not quite. You can order the shop-made pies online. I ate most of a middle-sized white one and had three, er, productive visits to the bathroom the next day thanks to the high fat and gelatin content.
