My knowledge of this side of our - er - culture is precious little, but I do know that euromillions is very different from scratchcards. But I recall my son's account of the time he did a stint working the lottery till at a convenience store. He was supposed to pay all scratchcard wins up to a certain amount there and then out of the till. Only once in his time there did a customer have a win which he couldn't pay out; but the cards have a fairly high rate of
small wins: perhaps one in ten or thereabouts.
Nearly
every single customer whom he paid from the till, went on to 're-invest' their winnings in further scratchcards. They invariably came out behind by the time they left the shop, no matter what...
