I wore my hi-vis today...

Here for rides.
  1. Check for cars overtaking you. If there are any, there is no need to do anything as the car will be spotted before you.
  2. Look for eye contact. If you have it, you have been spotted.
  3. At this point you will be quite close. As in the video you need to move across the field of vision so move across the lane to the right hand side. As it says in the video the driver may be surprised by you and slam on the brakes blocking the lane. You need to be on a trajectory that will take you around the nose of the car. Keep on eye out for oncoming traffic. You can also stand up on a cycle to make yourself bigger, stand out from the background and look more assertive.

er, nope. They may appear to be making eye contact with you whilst their head is full of unicorns, clouds and rainbows, or work, or relationships, or Chirs Moyles. They may even be starring at you in an attempt to work the jedi mind trick that makes you stop dead so they can pull out.

Eye contact guarantees nothing. I learnt the hard way.

I wore my hi-vis again this morning

Normally I've just been wearing my Aldi softshell...as it felt a bit warmer my light vented hi vis seemed a good choice this morning

Stupid overtakes and generally a worse attitude towards me were the order of the ride in

I know it's not scientific but I can't help feeling that there's a correlation

A rather nice black top with rather stylish scorpion logo with reflective silver lines & CASTELLI written on my shoulders seems to result in the best driver behaviour. Mavic vision jersey or jacket results in a high number of close passes... I'm kind of with you on this one.

I've started wearing mine this season, most likely because I'm not leaving early enough yet. 07:30 or earlier departure reduces the incidence of cupid stunts in cars on my hour long commute to almost zero until the last 3 miles when they are everywhere some days.

I've known vehicles to give me a wide berth, dressed in my black shorts and black aldi jacket and then 20 yards on be pulling in on the commuter in front, who's dressed in a dayglo work jacket.:rolleyes:

I kind of wonder if some see a bright yellow cyclist and equate that with "wobbling along at 2mph...must get past", and interpret the sight of me differently iw wearing a plain blue top

Just a theory but I can imagine in certain circumstances a motorist would see a nice clearly defined object and feel safe driving close to it (it the bit like a cycle lane) whereas they'd be uncertain about a less well defined object and give it more of a wide berth.

Hi-viz is the biz!
I am on a 70 dual-carriageway on my commute. The earlier drivers see me the better!

a mate at work nearly got hit by a van when it pulled out on him, both the driver and the passenger making eye contact with him while they did it.

unfortunately for the driver and passenger, they all work for the same company, and bet they weren't planning on that one catching up with them.

Link? I can imagine a black top with reflective strips being good - drivers will see you, but not know how big you are, and so will be more wary.

I think that people have become immune to hi viz - it's everywhere. I'd much rather have people grumbling about how they saw me in some clothing that I couldn't be seen in.

Right...that's it! I'm burning the f**ing thing!

A touch warmer so abandoned the winter softshell but decided a little wind protection was still in order so - guess what I wore today!

Within 1/2 a mile of leaving work I had a white Audi pull out on me at a RAB, then 100 yards up the road a green Toyota Corolla pulled out of a side road - impressed that the driver made the turn without hitting the kerb since he was actually gawping at me all the time!

It definitely gets worse every time I wear the thing
