Ice bucket challenge

1. Almost all water poured onto the ground will evaporate and later return as rain, and thus not be wasted at all.
Only if it falls in catchment areas/aquifers . If it (for instance) ends up in the storm water drains of south west london, it may end up at Mogden, filling the pools and forcing the release of tons of raw sewage into the Thames.

More generally, droughts do occur and are alleviated by not wasting water.

I did it in knickers and bra and a camp persona it's a laugh that raises money and if that money helps just one person then it's worked

The deal is that if you are challenged, you have to give money or pour ice water over your head. So, yes the vids are avoiding donating money.

Celebs do challenge and donate, I guess.
I just wish it was a different charity. I did the last one - no makeup selfie as I don't wear makeup everyday so it was easy enough. But I wish it wasn't always cancer based charities - As a woman I get that it's big deal and Breast cancer is included in the others, but for me mental health charities would be much more likely to get me doing something nutty like throwing ice cold water over myself.

There seems to be less ice in the buckets than there would be in a gin and tonic.

Waste water? Did you miss the day at school where they explained how rain works?

As for the newsreader, from the ALS website:
"As of Monday, August 25, The ALS Association has received $79.7 million in donations compared to $2.5 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 25)."
Hardly any of it will actually go to research though. Looking through there published accounts there a bit of a scam. Only 7% donations go to research. Over 10% on admin and 18% on fund rasing. Then the rest on other activists which includes company cars etc but some other positive things like helping a select few patients and aftercare
That's a very tenuous link. And no, people don't generally die from having a bucket of water poured over them. We're not quite that fragile.
Anyone that fragile should not go outside. It may rain

Don't give up the day job in favour of auditing :-)
