We had a ferret at school. It was found on the playing fields and lived in the fume cupboard in the chemistry lab

That must have been one excitable ferret!

Thanks all, I am pretty sure now than it must have been a weasel, albeit an unusually dark one (or possibly a wet one that looked darker).
