My MIL had chocolate packet that was a YEAR out of date at the side of her 'chair' when my wife and kids decided to clean the 'area 51'.

Hadn't been done in a long time. Brought out a massive 2 foot high pile of old tissues (used) and all sorts. Caused a massive row as some 'helper' said 'how dare they remove her stuff' - well I let loose on 'employed person' as it was a state (person was getting too personally involved and happened to be a mates 'wife') Roll on another 6 months - it's a mess again, and a remote control has vanished into the mess.

No-one will touch it as it caused such a hoo-har last time.

I would eat that without a second thought.
Worst thing that can happen to chocolate is spoilage by separation of the cocoa butter from the cocoa mass, that is it gets white speckles on top and tastes a bit granular.

I've now pulled a Morrison's 'savers' pork liver and bacon pate out my freezer, dated 04/08/17.
Bin that, don't even give it to the dog.
Pork is a high risk food: bacteria that causes spoilage in foods, food poisoning in humans and animals, stays dormant, but still alive, while in a frozen state.
