12 days of Christmas by my calculations takes us up to the 5th so they won't come down before then.
Before the current trend for putting trees up at the begining of December I used to be able to buy a fresh spruce on around the 18th and put it up straight away. They would drink a litre of water every two days and not drop any needles.
Last year we couldn't get a spruce as apparently everyone wants nordmanns which don't drop needles. It didn't drop any but didn't smell of anything - a plastic one would have been just as good and cheaper too.
This year we got a spruce which has been up since the 16th. Clearly not fresh as it's only drunk half a litre in two weeks and is dropping needles. However, it still smells of Christmas even now.
Fake tree here, but I always cut assorted pine and conifer greenery from the garden, along with holly and ivy to put on the door and in a vase, and it always smells lovely.
