Funny thing that. The question did indeed come up, last week when I was at the doctor's (and later the hospital) with suspected angina (false alarm). I did mutter to the doctor something like 'worst possibly thing you could say to me at this moment, tell me to lay off the bike'. He reassured me: 'no, no chance of that, our aim will always be to get you back on the bike ASAP'.

Unfortunately the chest pains I had last year were Angina. I was restricted to just riding to and from work very slowly, no club rides on Sunday mornings, couldn't even keep up with the slow group without bringing on an attack. I was seriously considering stopping cycling and wondering what my reaction would be if I was told to stop. I never found out, they filled my chest with Stents, 4 of them, and now I can even keep up with the fast group for short periods.

This is an interesting thread.

I was faced with this scenario earlier this year. I won't go into details with regard to the medical condition, however, my specialist actually said "I should tell you to stop cycling but I know keen athletes like you won't heed such a suggestion so I won't bother making it". I think he is a wise man!! I kept on cycling and the problems are easing so all is well in my world.

It's very heartening (excuse the pun!) to read posts like these. One day the 'real thing' will descend on me, no doubt ... and it'd be great to have this sort of encouragement when it happens!

my first question yesterday, when told i had a collar bone ligament fracture as a result of a crash, was how long until i could ride my bike again.

3 weeks was better than i thought...
