Following on from @colly and the ignorant pig thread about the post office worker on the phone, what do you lovely CC'ers think about this lady in Sainsbury's who was refused service until she hung up.

I do think it's rude, I cringe when I see people doing similar, jabbering away talking baba and not even aknowledging the person serving them, never mind offering a "please" or "thank you" for the service.

People who do this then fling their cc or debit card down r.e.a.l.l.y wind me up.

I own a small business and when people come in and deal with my whilst on the phone chatting I just ask them lots of questions relating to the order loudly ignoring their conversation. They soon realise and hang-up

Been at imigration at Manchester airport when officer told guy to get off phone and wait untill plane load had gone through. Damn rude talking on phone when being served/dealt with.

Errm iirc there are big notices in Immigration Halls stating that mobile phones should not be used. In fact I think you're told not to turn them back on until you're in baggage claim as a guideline. It is funny watching all the "relaxed" people coming back from holiday who can't wait to connect to the real world again...

The Cabin Cafe, beloved of the FNRTTC has a sign saying "rude behaviour towards our staff will not be tolerated. This includes talking on your mobile phone while being served." OWTTE. @Aperitif has a pic somewhere.

I think they were in a sticky situation. It is not policy to refuse to serve those on a phone and she was refused to be served so that had to make it up to her no matter how unsavoury it was. I am sure that there is a policy about being offensive to staff, and I do find this incredicbly rude, but I am also certain that talking on the phone wouldn't be considered as such.

I have along list of horrible customers I would prefer not to have to deal with at work but unfortunately I am paid to deal with them. Customers pay the wages in any business.

It is a very different matter to an employee being rude to a customer.

I saw/heard one of the people serving food at a stall in the Manchester food market tell someone to "take your f*cking earphones out so you can hear me then" whilst serving someone a couple of weeks ago, I thought "good on you" as I walked past.

We get enough of them thanks!! Most annoying when someones on the phone and they ask you where something is but keep chatting at same time!!
