The encounter, if you can call it that, lasted maybe 5 seconds 6 at most.
I went to a Post Office to buy a book of stamps. No one around as I approached the window. Guy leaning on his side of the desk, phone to his ear, he sees me approach. Looks down to the counter.
I put my hands on the counter expecting him to look up and ask what I want, or at least acknowledge me.
He carries on staring at the counter STILL on his f******* phone.

I count to 10, stop at three because I have already lost my rag. In serious danger of committing some kind of illegal act I turn on my heels and walk away swearing out loudly in a profuse and filthy manner. (to myself in fact as no one else is there)
What a thick skinned, slack jawed, slobbish, uncouth, self centered, toss-pot.

AND, his glasses didn't suit him and what WAS he thinking wearing that jumper??
seek professional help. Next!

Mrs. Hall says it might have been her colleague. She, of course, is never on the phone when behind the counter (but has been known to read a text or two). She always smiles at her customers.

Suddenly remembered the John Wayne quote that's been muttering at the margins of my mind since this thread got going.....from his last film (a true classic) The Shootist:

“I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.”

Puzzle game procrastinator!
I always find it mildly amusing when people who fail to give respect to others are utterly miffed when they don't get any back in return.
I found colly really respectful every time that I met him. He always struck me as being a mild-mannered man and I am confident that since he was angered by the chap on the phone, then phone guy really was being an ignorant pig!

Colly volunteered to drive people to my forum rides in his van, and picked me up from Leeds station for his forum ride to save me having to find my way to North Leeds. Nice chap!

(You can send the cheque to the usual address, colly ... :hello:)

But he can't. He has no stamps at present.

How much does it cost to Oldham?
Me: “Sorry, you can’t check this out.”

Patron: “Why not?”

Me: “You have three overdue books.”

Patron: “Is there anyway you can let this slide?”

Me: “Nope.”

(The patron proceeds to take off her shirt.)

Patron: “How about now?”

Me: “No. Please put on your shirt before I call the police.”

(The patron then takes off her pants, pulls aside her underwear, and soaks the floor. It is carpet, so there is a lot of damage. My coworker calls the police.)

Patron: “Now will you let it slide?”

Me: “No.”

Patron: “F*** you!”

(She goes over to a shelf, puts her back against it, and pees all over. It splashes up and ruins several books. She also defecates, picks up one of the books, tears out several pages, and uses it to wipe. The police arrive, and she calls her boyfriend, who is apparently in another section. He pleads with the police to let her free, but they don’t let her. He then adds to the mess that his girlfriend has already made. The police take him too. Later, we find another section that is completely ruined. That must have been where the boyfriend was.)

Is this a scene from shameless?

In the OP's case, it was a business transaction, respect from the server to customer should go with the job, I don't see it as a reciprocal arrangement.
