Hi to all. Hope you've all had a good day.
I,ve only been cycling serious ( to me anyway ) for a few months now and I can definitely see a change in my fitness. My butt has turned rock solid and my legs now feel tighter in my trousers and look more toned whilst my waist has got smaller. Each night I usually go out on the bike and get a few miles in. My favourite route is a 15.5 mile road ride of country roads. I hardly see any cars on my trip and apart from the odd stray sheep on the road that's about it really. I was a keen time trailist many years ago and I'm afraid it's still in my blood, at my ripe old age. Because of this I always keep records of my times / average speed and distances, and when out riding I can't help myself trying to beat my personal best. For the last few months my personal best over 15.5 miles usually averaged around 1hr 4 minutes ( 14.8 mph avg. ) these 2 weeks gone it has come down to 58 minutes ( 16 ish mph avg. ). The ride is now starting to feel too short for me and I'm thinking of looking for a another route to take me further afield. I must admit when I get home I collapse on the sofa for a few hours lol. So all in all I do feel like my life has taken a turn for the better. When my wife left me a few months back for another fella I was at a dangerous cross roads in life. My choice was to either go out drinking heavily and spend money hand over fist in the pubs drowning my sorrow's or just get back to basics in life and retrace my old life style of my younger days. I've seen so many people in my situation around town who have turned to drink and have just let themselves go to seed. I didn't want to take that course and i,m so glad that I've found cycling again because I really do think its saved me from going over the edge in life. Although money is tight and I try to limit my car use I feel I have seen so much more this summer because of my bike. Its been fantastic to be able to cycle in such glorious countryside taking in the views of the coastline and Greenery of my small country of Wales. I'm no Chris Froome for sure, or ever will be ,but it's still great to see yourself improving physically and mentally, and all this is comes from the simplicity of cycling.
Sorry for rambling on but it gets a little quiet here at home nowadays with no one about. :-))

Great to hear you're having a good time - lots of us here have picked it up or got back into it as adults, lots of people here with similar stories, you'll fit right in.

Must be great to have Wales to explore?

Well done, good for you.

I can relate to the personal situation.

About 3 years ago my ex wife of 10 years left me and put me into a dark place for months, i started with the sleeping pills and lost my job. Then i decided i wasnt going to be beaten..

My revenge was to start my own business and to get into the best shape of my life with gym and cycling, revenge is sweet lol, i now have a new girlfriend, house and child and a nice bike ^_^

Wow..
All I can say is thanks for your kind words of encouragement and support. Whilst out on the road I tend to think about everything that's happened in my personal life and I really seem to be able to put things in perspective. I don't know why, but problems , anxiety ect just seem to melt away and the world appears to be less dark place to live. When I get home I'm to knackered to care about anything lol. It a win win situation at the moment. :-))

@johnnyb47 have you considered joining a local cycling club (CTC) a great way to get socialising with people who have a common interest and you never know who you might meet.

I have been lurking around the local cycling club to be honest.. Everybody was very friendly and welcoming but I don't think I'm anywhere near in the league of fitness yet to seriously try my hand at time trails . I would have to consider the poor guy holding the stop watch. He would miss closing time at the pub waiting for me to come home. I do often go out with my brother in law on a few rides out. I have remained good friends with my feral wife's family .:-).
As much as i enjoy being a sociable guy I prefer riding solo. I think I would end up tangling up with someone out on a ride in a large group. ( I'm not what you would call a refined rider )
Thanks for the suggestion though buddy
