Imagine a world where motorists had to maintain the roads they used.

Carbon fibre... LMAO!!!
Most would argue that they pay for the upkeep of roads via their road tax which cyclists should also be paying 🙄🙄

It seems a few folk here have missed the sarcasm in this post :banghead:

Near me, there is a popular and well used shared use path, next to a main road. It constantly gets covered in a sort of gritty gravel, that comes from the adjacent road where the surface is breaking up. The road is managed by Notts County Council. I put in a request to them to get the shared use path swept, but it turns out that the path is managed by the Borough Council (Newark and Sherwood, in this case), so I had to put in a request to them to sweep the path. It did get swept about a month after I put the request in, but within a week or so, it’s back to being covered in gravel/grit again, due to the continuing deterioration of the adjacent road.

I even spent and hour or so sweeping it myself one time, with the same result - a week later it was covered in gravel again. What is needed is that it gets swept weekly, but that’s never going to happen.

I recently finished reading Laura Laker’s book - Potholes and Pavements, which reveals that most of our National Cycle Network is built on a wing and a prayer, using whatever short term grants and funding are available. It’s a wonder that any of it ever gets built, and it can take decades of campaigning to get sections completed. And there is NEVER any funding for ongoing maintenance , which is why some of it falls in to disrepair and much of it is left to volunteers to keep it clear of vegetation and rubbish.

Ha! There's one near me that started construction 18 months ago. They were 1/2 way through a section when it was discovered that the intended route went through private property and the owner was not receptive. Construction stopped and remains in that state to this day.
Is it beyond the minds of people to go through an entire project planning before starting construction? Nuts, and a complete waste of money.

North Yorkshire have a similar page. It requires you pin pointing the location which is absolutely useless on cycle paths as it only works on vehicular highways and the designated route of a public right of way. Hence absolutely no use in reporting an inner tube "snake bite" resulting tree root sticking through the tarmac of one.

Tried emailing them. Report online came the response. Email response sent that I cannot with a screenshot showing the error message.

My county council (Lancashire) has a web page for reporting stuff like this. I regularly report hedges overgrowing pavements, blocked drain, broken stiles etc. .. and they DO get responded to. I'd assume most councils have a system like this. Admittedly it wasn't easy to find, so I've now got the link saved as a favourite. For those of you in Lancashire, here's the link:
https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/roads-parking-and-travel/report-it/

You can always use fixmysteet.com - it will work out which council area you are in, and send teh report to the correct place, with photos if you have any.
