Most would argue that they pay for the upkeep of roads via their road tax which cyclists should also be paying 🙄🙄

I think you will find we all pay for the upkeep of the roads, as it all comes out of the pot.

This is also why I purposely avoid the majority of cycle paths.

It is inevitable with the decline of ICE cars. The loss of revenue (both VED and fuel duty) will have to be replaced somehow.

I think it's inevitable that they won't do anything to price people out of their cars in any significant way. Cheap driverless taxis might get more people out of cars, but they might get a lot of people out of buses and trains as well in the process.

You’ve still not addressed the issue of lost revenue.

There's no such thing as 'road tax'. All roads, apart from motorways and some trunk roads are funded through our council tax.

What motorists get agitated about is a tax that they pay and cyclists don't, they're not much bothered what it's called.

Or a well used cycle path would be one a council might see fit to maintain.

Not quite the same but similar. Our village has quite a few footpaths to get around the village and to the station. There's also a lot that do not get used so much. Our parish council keeps the most used ones open but the least used gets cleared only when enough complain about it. Or people just clear them for themselves
