It doesn't matter what the subject is, any member of parliament (current or former) would be jeered by the audience, it's natural. The issues being discussed were largely to do with the bus lane and public transport, not cycling.

Um, it's possible to be a cyclist and a petrolhead you know. I'd say that about 80% of the keen cyclists I know well as friends are also petrolheads to some degree or other. Including having raced motorbikes and cars, owning several classic or vintage cars, or just generally loving tinkering with mechanical stuff of all sorts.

I never said anything of the sort, but in the OP it very much seemed as though it's an issue of petrolheads are unreasonable, speeding people, and very different to cyclists. I of course, disagree with this.

the westway is having roadworks done underneath it so , quite rightly, the speed limit on it has been reduced to 30mph for the duration of the work. JC is worried that it will stay at 30mph like the motorway limit stayed at 70mph after the temporary limit was set 46 years ago.

Many people have been critical, with some calling it "dangerously slow". A three lane road does not need to be 30 mph, why's it safe to go 50 when there are road works being completed on the motorway?

People are saying that on a road of that type, if people conform to the limit, people are more likely to tail-gate each other, it's natural as people are usually in a hurry to get home. It's not about controlling the car...

Great episode of TG last night. I'm a fan, love that it's so un-PC. JC is playing up to his petrol head un pc image, so what it makes for an entertaining program.

Prescott was a good sport, and he's an old fashioned politician. Whether you like him or not, agree or disagree with his views, you have to respect the fact that he speaks his mind, and you know where he stands on an issue.

I went on an advance driving course with a previous company I worked for (all co car drivers had to do it at the time). It was definately an eye opener. As for tailgating etc., there's simply no excuse for not driving safely and leaving enough stopping distance, whatever speed you're driving at. Also the chance of someone being hit by a car at 30mph and surviving is significantly greater than being hit at 40mph.

You need to take the type of road into consideration... The chances of hitting someone on the road in question is near zero, as there are no pedestrians.

Tailgating is not due to poor driving skill, it's down to poor patience. Keeping a good distance from the car in front doesn't take any skill at all.

I suppose posting it on a cycling forum, where the majority of people seem to dislike the Top Gear crew and everything about the show, you don't have to mention cycling. Calling the audience members petrolheads felt as though you were speaking solely from a cyclist point of view. My bad if this is not true.
