If he refused to name the passenger then I think he should be prosecuted for the offence instead – probably not the law as it stands, but its something that IMHO should be possible…. Grrr…… unregistered vehicle, refusing to cooperate = get off scott free – what a joke of a society we live in

Nobody deserves respect, police or otherwise. Respect is earned. Some police will get it some wont. Thats life really.

I was in a PE class when i was in year 11 and a police officer walked past the window. Someone shouted "FED!!!!!" and quite a few people in the class all shouted, "**** the police"

No, theres not much respect for them.
Although, the school police officer did get alot of respect. He put me into handcuffs one time and demonstrated how, if i tried to run, he could break my wrists. Also, showed me how if i didnt want to stand up, he could make me by using a finger by the ear

I bet most of the kids shouting abuse at the police would be the one's most likely to need the police in their lifetime, or come into contact with the police.

I am pro police, I NEVER got stopped as a YOOF because I behaved myself, never got stopped for shouting drunken abuse, cos I didn't do it, never got pulled in my car as a lad, cos I wasn't a stupid prat that thinks driving round town centres at midnight with a car full of people smoking pot and listening to 'rave' music at volume 11 is 'cool'

Police are out there to do a job. Get on the wrong side and you only have yourself to blame IMO.

Ive not been stopped by the police yet. Im not gobby, and dont actually mind the police, and normally get a smile and hello from the police when they are out walking.

There were 2 people, about mid 20s who looked abit like druggies, that i saw when i was doing my paper round. They were going along the road, then saw 2 police up the road, so went down the road another road, because they didnt want to walk past them!
I did feel like waiting for the police and telling them about the 2 people, but i thought i wouldnt bother.

Not that I have anything against the poilce in general, I wish there were more about tbh. Gone are the days where I was told as a child if you get lost ask a policeman...now I see one on footbike every other week, so what am I going to tell my child?

I was told by the police that the driver had told them he couldn't remember if he had a passenger in the car that day.

As it had been a couple of months since the incident and the paperwork for the car had been put in order I don't suppose it left the police much room to maneuver.

I've been pulled three times,

once they were trying to have me for loud music (was the car next to me on the carageway, but a yoof in an older car was more likely than a people carrier I guess) having a broken stereo and no speakers in the car meant they had to appologise (that and the, now reduced, noise followed the other car)

got a routine road side check, wasn't just me they were pulling in, again an old car is more likely to have something up with it (1979 fiesta) but nothing wrong with it at all.

got pulled for the brake lights not working, they were working, i just wasn't braking at the time the police were behind me, was controlling my speed just on the throttle

the first one they were a little arsey with me when they found the speakers were missing from the parcel shelf and the stereo was not connected up to anything (or was it not even in the car at the time?)

think they also struggled to open the bonnet as it folds forwards.

other than that, quite pleasant experiences other than being made slightly late for where i was going.

Gone are the days where I was told as a child if you get lost ask a policeman...

I remember being told that and actually having to say I was lost to one too as a kid. Generally I find my police exchanges have all been pleasant, especially with the local ones if you come in to contact with them regularly. I do wonder if they look at me and go ... "oh no - that complaining woman again", but if so they hide it well.

The police station by me (or Dudley South Operational Command Unit, as it is now known), has a nicely maintained window box. That is about the only positive thing that i can say about it. Just the thing to keep your spirits up while you wait in vain for somebody to answer the door .

This is the same police station where the building society over the road was robbed during the day a few years ago, and recently a pub fight spilled out into the road and ended up with some loon driving round knocking pedestrians down, outside the police station.
