BBC radio news compared her to Alan Bennett in her ability to write about being English and ordinary. Though it must be said, I'm not sure Bennett has written many musicals, played and sang, acted in comedy and drama recieving National awards, or sold out The Albert Hall several nights in a row.

Kingsley Amis wrote that the true mark of talent was that the person could be funny and amusing without being cruel, rude or unkind.

Sad news.
Good quote. A fair bit of the comedy of cruelty around these days. Without any redeeming/justiying satirical point. Won't give examples or it will send the justified tribute thread off topic.

Tend to think that the petty cruel stuff won't last though, today's selfie stick, tomorrow's junk. I am sure people will be laughing at victoria wood for many years though.
