marafi

Rolling down the hills with the bike.
He can easily sue the Boris bikes for not providing a helmet. And because it was his right of way well other issues can occur. If cyclists knew first aid then there would be less dislike of them.

As pretty much all the other incorrect and clearly wrong comments have been commented on. I will point out that there is no such thing as right of way on the UK roads. Only those who have priority and those who should give way.

As vulnerable road users we should always try and give way even if we have priority if it saves us from getting hit. Much like Origamists video. (not stating that the cyclist was at fault here, we don't know enough of what happened to base any sort of opinion on that)

Picking up on marafi again, I'd like to point out that many of us do know first aid, and a few of us carry first aid kits. I've used mine to help a few fellow-cyclists in recent years. There is no indication from the OP that anyone was ignorant of how to help, so your comment is insulting and pointless, along with the rest of your ridiculous and inappropriate post.

However, CoG, I am glad that you were there to help, and I am relieved that the cyclist was not more badly hurt. I hope this has a good ending.

+1 Well said.

Always worthwhile giving your details to both the police (who'll be concerned with criminal offence side of things) AND to the injured party, who may later be more concerned with the civil side of things, long after police have closed the file. Might make it easier for him to contact you - if of course you wish to be!

I carry a first aid kit and did a one day first aid course about 22 years ago. I wonder if I should do another one.

Probably worth refreshing. Some of the thinking on CPR has changed in that time (to do with the numbr of compression per breath and stuff), and when I did mine (last year) the instructir said that the thining may well change again soon. It's not that you could get it wrong, but the priorities have changed a bit, I think.

Probably good to be reminded anyway. I think to be a qualified first aider officially, you need to refresh every 3(?) years?

How can they sue Boris Bikes, helmets are not compulsory and if they were they'd ruin the scheme, just look at the Melbourne Bike Scheme; anyway I don't think CoG even mentions a helmet
Edit: he does in his later posts

Depends on the enviroment. I believe hospital workers and similar need to have a refresher once a year.
But i think 3 years is about right for general public.
