I think many of average build can have difficulty due to the fact that modern cars are wider than of old and many car park admins have not got around to relining their car parks accordingly.
Edit to say I'm not defending obesity!
This is true. I have a medium size car, which parked exactly in the middle of a standard space leaves, literally, about 6" to the white line on either side.
The answer is generally to park about 50m further away. Goodness knows why most people insist on parking as close as possible to the shop entrance (or whatever), when they're going to walk at least a few hundred metres around the shop / wherever they're going.
