Modified "e-bike" seized in Little London by Leeds North West police.

Looks legit to me

Saw something yesterday that I would like views on

There was an older lady on what I initially thought was an ebike of some kind
she was riding very sensibly - but on the pavement
slowed down for pedestrians and properly stopped at the traffic lights and pressed the button and all that
It was not a cycle path but she was not causing any problems to anyone

I was on the other side of the road and got across my bit before her

She was sitting down on a proper saddle - holding the handlebar and all that - just like a bike

I noticed that she never pedalled - so clearly had a throttle

as she passed me I looked closer and saw that there were no pedals
it was basically an e-scooter with a proper saddle and wheels a bit smaller than a basic folder
so looked rather like a small bike until you looked closer

she rode very carefuly the whole time I could see her and slowed down to people and crossed the road properly every time

so she was not causing any problems

but she was riding an illegal device
and riding on the pavement

but lob 2 more wheels on it and it would be a mobility scooter - and legal
but currently illegal in many ways!

so
should she be stopped and prosecuted?
should there be a category for 2 wheeled mobility devices - probably with some speed regulations or something

I see the daily mail are today calling for illegal ebikesmtk be banned and made subject to moped rules, number plates, etc.

Theyre too thick to realise that they are already subject to licencing and number plate rules, and thkse that don't do so are already banned. Sadly the unwashed masses will read this and believe their drivel.

Daily Mail - e bikes are legal devices. Illegal ones are E MOTOS. Get over it.

I tried to reply to that article but I would have had to create a Daily Mail account

and - just no

anyway yes

they did their normal very good use of language

they went on about how TERRIBLE ebikes are and how murderers and rapists and genocideists and right up to immigrants ride them and terrorise people
(sorry - not exactly that but that was the thought they were aiming for "the readers" to have)

and how they all need to have licenses and MOTs and all that

and they DO mention in the middle that there are some that are legal

they always do this - it SOUNDS like they are saying every bike with a motor of any kind is ridden by terrible people and they should all be locked up
but it you ever tried to sue them then there is JUST enough accuracy somewhere that means they could not lose the case

it is very clever - and shows exactly how much they expect their readership to read and understand
