All this reminds me of a video of a cyclist being sternly told off by a copper for riding on the footway. "But it's a cycle path" "No it isn't"

Cyclist points to enormous bike logo painted on the ground.

I once had a member of the public indignantly storm into my station (I was the duty sergeant that day, so it was my station) to complain about one of my officers cylcing on the path. That it was a shared path, with painted markings and signage to indicate this, appeared to have passed him by in his righteous quest to find something to be angry about.

When the lad I grew up with was in the Police we used to meet up for a chat and he hated cops like that

He expected his colleagues to have a certain level of brain power and employ it on duty

from what he said there was a certain type that just considered his (not her!) natural superiority to mean that intelligence was not needed

I've had this happen several years ago and with a traffic warden of all people, who was actually standing on the giant bike logo when he stopped me to tell me he was going to fine me for riding on the pavement!

Sadly I've encountered such people in many different lines of work. Youll find they were born that way, and didn't suddenly decide to become a chump besause they became dibble. MOT testers, TV licence goons, the counterfeit cops patrolling dog poo and litter, the returns counter at Asda, the doctors receptionist, post office management, NHTO... they walk among us.

The good news is the bulk of them don't last long in the job.

A certain type does tend to look to jobs with a level of "authority"
so the Police is like the scent of steak to a Labrador to them

teaching always attracted some as well - then were c**p teachers so didn't last long where I was (the kids saw through them and destroyed them)

I had a friend who went through a series of attempts to find a career. He did his training as a firefighter only to drop out in the last week of training as he couldn’t cope with macho attitude of his fellow trainees. He then went into the police force again dropping out in the last days. He said they had been told you can’t use your status as an officer of the law for gain. One his fellow trainees turned up in a brand new pair of docs telling everybody he’d got them for half price when he mentioned he was in the police.
The thing that killed him off was another trainee saying “ I can’t wait till we qualify just think of wading in to the Shire Horse on a Friday night with your truncheon with the law on your side”.
He went in to selling insurance and property development instead and made millions.
