But the word ebike has no formal definition. You want it to only mean EAPCs, but with no formal definition it means whatever the general public understand it to mean.

Which is any bike with an electric motor, legal for road use or otherwise.
Calling it an "ebike/e-bike" just confuses the matter further. And when a public official classes them all as the same thing, legal or not, then it doesn't help those looking for where the dividing line is.

Especially when the question asked was submitted nearly two months before. Giving them plenty of time to check, or have someone else check their answer before they gave it.

I throw them in hedgerows or ditches. Itll land me in trouble one day, but if they aren't obstructing the footway people wouldn't have to move them.

We have a huge problem with hire bikes being left in a bottleneck exit to my local train station, rather than make the space for them at the other side of the station where there's a vast open paved space, the council painted a small white box on the narrow pavement next to an alley for e-bike parking, so it's regularly completely blocked by lime bikes.
I've now taken to bulldozing them into one big pile and let them all fall over and jam together...
It's a shame because they should be a great way to get people out of cars, unfortunately I'm in a country where pomposity and sheer arrogance means a lot of those riders have the same "do as I like" attitude that so many car owners display, because that's how they behave when driving too....

Mopeds and motorcycles DO have a formal definition. Where electrically powered the informal term is e-moto.

Never seen it outside this forum.

We know what EAPCs are. The informal term there is ebike.

It is also the normally used informal term for any bike with an electric motor.,

it's doesn't seem difficult to anyone except the media, MPs, and needlessly contrary pedants.

Which means everybody except those with a strong interest such as us.

because anybody else is just going to use the terms they see in the media.

I'm sure it doesn't help.

But it is no use us complaining about it here, because it is the norm, whether we like it or not.

Maybe we at the bottom can try and change the norm then. Let it work it's way up.

Here isn't the only place I've complained about it either.

I saw a few article about illegal ebikes - i.e. electric motorbikes - yesterday

comments were the normal

"There is one round here and I saw it go past a Police car yesterday at 50 mph and the cops did nothing"

which sounds right - WHY did the cops do nothing

engage one brain cell and it becomes obvious
next day headlines "Little gilr out with her Granny to get an Ice Cream killed by POLICE CHASE of innocent orphaned much loved child on an ebike"
or whatever

I have seen SO many comments about how the Police should stop them
and very little about how exactly you stop some yobbo on a Sur-Ron doing 50 with a mask on

I would strongly suggest that a flash of the blue lights and a quick blip on the siren might not have them pulling over to the side and saying "sorry I won;t do it again"

You have to be specifically trained to pursue a 2 wheeler, in an appropriate vehicle, and the pursuit must then be very quickly authorised by a suitably trained inspector or above or it gets called off.

Coppers for the most part take it very seriously. Aside from not wanting some innocent passing granny to get hurt, we have this ridiculous legal system that potentially holds the bobby responsible for the villains behaviour if they fall off and kill themselves.

I quit RPU in a huff about an investigation into my behaviour. I was stuck in Friday night traffic on a marked off road bike, and unbeknown to me a lad on a stolen moped a hundred yards behind saw me, panicked, tried to hop up the kerb to escape down an alley but fell off and broke his leg. I wasnt even aware of this until other motorists made me aware of milladdo's predicament, yet because he was reacting to my mere presence I was investigated.

I threw a wobbly and quit RPU. Each officer owns their own driving licences, they cannot be ordered to exercise their S.87 rights to break speed limits, jump red lights, ignore signs, etc, so the farce are completely reliant on each officers good will. The best they could do was move me to a community team, doubtless a moved intended as a punishment for standing up the authority, but it back fired - no nights, lots of tea, a feeling that I was actually helping people, and time to study for my skippers exam was hardly punishment.

So year, if Johnny Scumbag goes flying passed a marked IRV on an e-moto theres every chance he wont get pursued.

That is pretty much what I expected it to be like

Probably over the top
but the way the press report on some incidents means they have to do that in some cases
and they only know which case after

but a certain type of person "demands" that "they do something" that moans like crazy when they do
