Aye, so let's hope that when he's had 'a word' he gets on the blower to tell SaraH the result. And now, I think it's time to get the kettle on.

I would say that it's unlikely.

One never knows tho.

hadn't reckoned that I'd have to worry about police condoned pavement drivers.

Get over yourself! No one condoned the van driver's behaviour. The cop told you he would go and see him. He won't be prosecuted. Sorry.

I repeat. No one was hurt. The driver was a tw*t. Move on.

I ignored that bit in the interest of <not really sure why>...possibly due to there was some degree of movement on the ranting?

Thankfully, he got shot!!

And the Police in the days of Dixon onwards were not "Dixon-esque" at all...you are much more likely now to find someone who gives a shoot.

This particular officer did not offer SaraH the service she expected or deserved. However the end result would have been the same if he had offered her a cup of tea and chatted about how her kid was getting on at school etc...tutted, sucked his teeth, and went "oh that sounds terrible"...

In the 'grand scheme' it is a matter which requires 'a word'.

That was in "The Blue Lamp". They brought him back to life for the TV series.

We have councils , police forces struggling for money and dangerous criminals running about the place and the OP wants to persue this ?

Looks like a classic case of wasting police time ?

OK the van driver is a cock. Get over it

The issue is not that the driver is not going to be prosecuted. A "word" is all that most of us would expect for such an incident.

The issue is that the police officer the OP spoke to immediately sided with the driver, excused his behaviour, even stated he had done nothing wrong. We rightly expect impartiality from the police. The OP didn't get that.

I'm fortunate enough to live in an area where there is little to no crime, I don't know if the police round here would have got a prosecution, but they would have done something, the van driver would not be pratting about on the pavement any more, I doubt the OP would be complaining. The police round here nip this sort of crap in the bud, hence it is an excellent place to live.

Unfortunately due to cut backs, the powers that be will undoubtedly reduce the police in my area until our crime rate starts to teeter on the unacceptable. If we started paying the police a realistic wage and had them work until they were 65 - 70 like the rest of us, then we could all have a level of policing that could deal with the minor stuff, get rid of the minor stuff and the big stuff will vanish. Unfortunately our country is going down the pan due to the utter greed of the public sector.

Sounds like a great place to live Reiver, you must be very happy with the way policing is dealing with issues in your community.......

but wait, your second paragraph appears not to be so enamoured of the way things are going...... ah yes, the old "work until you're 65 or 70" bit. Well, I can't think of many 65 to 70 year olds that would be very safe or comfortable running to deal with a pub fight, or facing a group of teenagers with a few cans of stella on board intent on a bit of mayhem.

Perhaps we could give them office jobs and pay them a "realistic" wage to do a clerk's job.... that would be a good idea....oh wait, we did that, and then forced them to retire, then we employed civilian police staff, and now have made them redundant. Oh shoot...and it all seemed so simple from behind a keyboard! Oh well, I'll just watch the 11 percent of my hard earned wages paid in for the last 25 years get washed down the pan so that people like you can rejoice that my "gold-plated" pension (did you read the 11 percent bit?) is now being taken away from me, together with my general health (did you ever do year after year of shift work on a 6x2,2x10,10x6 pattern?), my family and social life, having to adhere to a code of conduct on and off duty that restricts where I live, where I travel, who I associate and socialize with, my right to take an active part in politics.......

Yes, it's all pure f*cking greed.

I have a Police officer neighbour who is a big roadie. Since I've got to know him my respect for the Police has increased because I have realised they are just ordinary Joes who have a very difficult job to do. Somebody summed it up this way: you spend your entire career making vital decisions that can affect people's lives until in a moment of stress you get something wrong and you get pilloried for it then sacked with no rights and no pension.

I'm sure if the interviewing officer were here, they'd say they were impartial. Another case of 2 stories and the truth?

If what the OP said is true, and I have no reason to doubt it, then the police officer definitely wasn't impartial.

Yes 11%, not very much really, would get you bollocks all in the rreal world. Since a typical police officer will spend as long in retirement as they spent working, then unless your pension is going to be 11% of your average income then somebody else is having to cough up an awful lot of money ... Oh wait, that's probably the rest of us.

Don't you work 4 days on 4 days off ? That would be 180 days a year, sounds good, sounds very healthy.... Oh wait, I forgot the Holidays and sick leave, that should take you down to about 140 - 150 days per annum. That would be about 40% less working days than mr average.

And yet if a copper offered to swap jobs with you, I reckon you'd go rather quiet.

Also, your figures are way off.

I think I would quite enjoy it, I do know quite a few police officers and have worked with them (within Scottish Mountain Rescue) have often regretted not joining up.

And which figures are way off ?

Where you conclude that a police officer works 40% less than "average". No way.
