They did that on Mythbusters. IIRC The tyre does get re-seated, but not actually inflated. Once it cools down the tyre collapses, so needs air to inflate properly.

Im waiting for the "my mtb is up a tree" post..
think this is a cold weather snow trick when tyres are run at very low temp for added traction on 4x4's
they pop off the rim easy

I know someone who did that with lighter fluid and a one of those ratchet straps used to tie cargo on trucks ! poor soul now has several plates and screws plus plastercast several months later,had the metal handle hit him in the head then it most def would have been goodnight vienna.
